Boris Nemtsov was gunned down on the northern end of the Moscvoretsky Bridge, directly in front of the second closest to the camera of the green lamp-posts. In the background: St Basil’s cathedral on the right, the wall of the Kremlin on the left, Red Square in the centre. A more dramatic backdrop for an assassination in Moscow is hard to imagine.

Like a scene from Gorky Park….
The actual shooting nicely screened from all the cameras – almost as if someone knew exactly where the cameras were….
Apparently the cameras were closed down for maintenance just a few hours before.
Such bad luck.
They were not, Bruce, as Paul has just mentioned – the whole thing was caught on camera and is available on YT.

It’s the same bridge, I think, on which Mathius Rust landed his plane. Perhaps they installed the cameras shortly afterwards?
Obviously suicide, he chose to stand there.
Cheers
Of course, it was a suicide. Just look at the architectural outline of the red Square. So many shapes, so many ankles. He (Nemtsov) started shooting and then after a few seconds the ricochets began coming. Right in his back…
