Will Self manages the same trick, in his own register. He recently published a piece he had the nerve to call J’Accuse, in which he put the invented term “gender criticality” in scare quotes, for fear that the rest of his prose might touch against it, and treated a position that would have been unremarkable a decade ago as self-evidently disreputable now.
Self doesn’t do Jon’s soft, sorrowful faux-concern. He does something closer to sneering, the confident dismissal of a man who’s decided which side sounds cleverer and doesn’t need to check. But it’s the same cowardice wearing a better jacket. Neither of them will say whether a man belongs in a woman’s changing room. But both of them will happily write thousands of words about those of us who simply say no.
If you’re willing to be on hormones for 3 or more years, and have had both top AND bottom surgery, then go do you.
But until that time, no.
I find myself in a bit of a quandary. Do I find Will Self even less interesting than Sacha Baron Cohen ? Or is it the other way round ? I can’t decide. I’m too riveted by watching paint dry.
Will Self. Apparently, very ill, so nil nisi bonum etc., but never was a case of nominative determinism so pompously presented.

I thought that too – until “go do you” started to include loitering in public restrooms being used by little kids.
Because, in my estimation, no matter how responsive you are to the hormones, no matter how well your surgery goes, and how massively talented your surgeon, no matter how well you could fool every onlooker and bed partner – you still aren’t a woman, if you began as a man.
At best, you are a man wearing an outstanding woman disguise. And that doesn’t buy you the right to act weirdly in the restrooms around children (see, for example, the man cosplaying as a woman who took photos of people in the womens restrooms at Disneyworld).
And showing a bit of commitment! Hopefully removal of the male genitalia, however deranged that decision might be, also renders them less of a threat to children.
At one time it would have been considered a wild satire of the left that they would ever promote this – but they now do.
The left have both a commitment to undermine society (they tell themselves that this is so a better society can be built on the ashes of the old – but, I suspect, they really just want to reduce society to ashes) – and (perhaps just as importantly) an emotional need to shock – and to shock they have to keep getting more and more extreme.
Just as abortion was not enough (now it is leaving babies to die after they are born – or even killing children who are several years old as in the Massachusetts case) so parading homosexual acts (once considered shocking) was not enough – they had to move on to trans-sexual stuff (parading it – not keeping it as a private matter, insisting that everyone celebrate, “affirm”, it, and then that was not enough – so they had to move on to doing such things as children.

That is a crime whoever does it. Just as the fact that the perpetrator of that and similar crimes is in the category transgender does not affect their guilt, so the fact that other people who have not committed that or similar crimes are in also in the category transgender does not affect their innocence.
Presently the laws the left support enacting in various jurisdictions are “only” about killing off babies up to 28 days from birth, but why not 28 years? Or older?
The left celebrated the murder of Ann Widdecombe in Britain and the murder of Charlie Kirk in the United States – so it is not “just” babies they wish to kill.
On sexual practices – again it is the desire-to-shock.
First it was adults – now it is about targeting children. Including for trans-sexualism.

He boasted of injecting himself with heroin on a trip (as a journalist) following Prime Minister John Major.
Mr Self seeks attention – and does not much care how he gets that attention.
Rather like Rousseau – in his confessions of (for example) leaving his children in Foundling Homes – to die.
Rousseau wanted attention – and if the only way he could get it was boasting about how he neglected his own children, then that is what he did.
These days he would have cut the sexual organs off his children (or filled them with chemicals – or both) – and declared them “Trans”.
Having a “Trans Child” (or more than one) is very fashionable in Hollywood.
“From Birth” I meant AFTER birth.
The left support the death of babies up to 28 days AFTER birth.
At least that is their official position – in reality they support the death of people they do not like, at any age.
For example, it was shown that the Democrat candidate for Attorney General of Virginia wrote about his fantasies of murdering conservatives – and murdering-their-children.
The Democrats of Virginia voted for him anyway.
