Duckburg inflation

Reason TV has used a brilliantly educational Donald Duck cartoon as a starting point in a video on current monetary problems.

I think it is pitched at just about the right level to educate our politicians about economics. They may be able to print money but they have not yet figured out how to print value.

Gotta say, that was kind of lame. If they’re going to make an impact on the mass consciousness, production values are going to have to be improved!

I still call it a ‘Donald Duck’ cartoon because that’s what I grew up with. Scrooge was just a character who usually had a story in the Donald Duck comic book.

As to the production values, it would be nice if there were better quality copies of the old Disney cartoons available on line but there aren’t as far as I know, and certainly not available for a use such as this by Reason if digitally remastered versions do exist.

I watched the entirety of another cartoon on YouTube, “Once Upon A Dime” which teaches at a kids level what goes into becoming a billionaire. “Work Hard”, “Work smarter, Not Harder”, fight for your property, be prepared to turn luck to your advantage, find a way to turn adversity to your advantage, don’t let the bastards get you down, learn the value of money and… friends and family are what make you truly wealthy.

I had not seen a Scrooge McDuck cartoon since I was a child probably, and at that age did not realize what an excellent education he was giving. At that age, I just wanted a money bin to go swimming in too… but the lessons stuck I think, particularly since I got the same message from my own family.

I might also add that if you think you can do a better job on the production values, you should volunteer to help. Give Reason a call, or do your own and get them to include it on Reason TV.

  • Is Scrooge McDuck available for Obama’s economic advisory team? It’s not like there aren’t any other cartoon characters joining O’s administration.

Talking about “educational” videos… have you seen this one?
