We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.

Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

Samizdata quote of the day

Liberty is always dangerous – but it’s the safest thing we have.

Bob Geldof That is pretty good; but liberty is not a thing. It might be better to say it is the safest choice we have.

  • Here is another one from David Davis (in a letter to the Economist, 28 July 2008):

The government presents these issues as Faustian trade-offs between security and liberty. The reality is that draconian measures rarely make us safer and often jeopardise security. That is not a trade-off. It is a con, which is why we need an informed national debate that goes to the heart of our liberal democracy.

I’m going to pay much more attention to RK in future,
He appears to have a Tardis…

    Rk, you are obviously German,

If you think it’s bad being under attack from the bad guys, imagine how it is having both the bad guys and the “good guys” out to get you at the same time.

    Worth it? I daresay not.

    n005.. surely that is

    – imagine how it is having both the bad guys and the “bad guys” out to get you at the same time..

  • One man’s Liberty can be another man’s prison.

Although I agree in the spread of Liberty throughout all countries, and societies, I agree that it is ‘always dangerous.’

You can never take Liberty lightly. It must always been regarded with care, and treated with respect.
