We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.

Christmas cheer from Samizdata HQ

Although I am in a tryptophan (or more likely, just gluttony) induced haze, let me quickly file an after-action report from the front…

adriana_kitchen_mr.jpg

The menu was sort of ‘Anglo-Slavic’… sauerkraut soup followed by pheasant,
parsnips, carrots, ‘tats and red cabbage… followed by a Slovak chocolate-coffee-sour cream layered cake…

Some bizarre items of clothing were encountered…

An excellent Lebanese wine was discovered…

…examined…

…and consumed in considerable quantity. And then…

adriana_and_the_alien_mr.jpg

strange Christmas presents were exchanged

As Dale has already added his greetings from Ulster, Adriana and I would like to wish all our readers and contributing Samizdatistas a hearty Christmas, well provisioned with all the goodies capitalism doth provide.

It’s the first button up from the belt Captain!!

I dunna think it can take much more!!!…

Merry Christmas and a happy new year both.

  • Blimey Perry, I didn’t know you’d hooked up with Louise Brooks!

Rather splendid monster and… hippo socks?

  • Robert

    Perry,
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

And to any miserable lefties and Grinches reading…
    Yarbles!
Bolshy great Yarblockos to Thee and Thine.

Happy Christmas from Malta! Currently a nice 16 degrees C here, the sun is blue, nice light breeze, off to Valetta for a walk along the harbour front and a couple of pints of Cisk beer.

Now that’s what I call Christmas!

  • OMG Adriana, what’s happened to your beautiful blond hair?

  • Robert — what is the point of that? Why turn a perfectly pleasant and convivial posting into an occasion for snotty insults?

And no, simply imitating slang from A Clockwork Orange is neither funny nor clever.

  • Sandrine Duval

Most beautiful hair in my opinion! Yes like Louise Brooks, an icon and enduring image of style and independence.

  • Hi
What a proactive blogger you are. Love the choice of food and wine that you guys indulged in. The socks are definitely a must whilst celebrating that European Christmas spirit. Perhaps a lil Irish!
Am a southern Irish expat who calls Aus home. Enjoyed your article on Pinochet. I think the countries who were willing to hide him from facing the truth of his hineous crimes against humanity, should be made stand up in the court of law also. Don’t you?
    Enjoy the celebrations

I dont do envy Johnathan, but this time I’m sorely tempted!
The trouble is I can walk every inch of that harbourside in my mind’s eye, with you. Then we could walk up through the town, to a little restaurant I know near the Bristol Hotel and that beautiful park with the fantastic view, and sink a few!

    As for you Mares-

    What frightful bad manners!

I’m sorry, was there something in the quote or its context that made you think I gave a fuck about your fossilised sense of humour?

  • Robert

And before anyone ELSE decides to jump into my face over a JOKE, I would suggest you go back and read both the comment;specifically who that bit was addressed too, then go and read the Book, looking up the context of Alex’ comment and who IT was addressed too.
Sorry Perry, some of these people drive me crazy.

  • Peace, guys. This is supposed to be the season to chill out, spend time with people we like, have some good food and wine.. and change hairstyles as one sees fit.

Plenty of time to argue afterwards. 🙂

  • Merry Christmas Perry. Merry Christmas Adriana. (It may take me a while to get used to that hairdo, though).

  • jfjfd

    Nice hairdo.

  • Nick M

Season of goodwill and all that and all anybody seems to care about is Adriana’s barnet.

OK, I can be as petty as y’all… D’ya think following sauerkraut soup with red cabbage is an optimal menu choice?

  • Miroslav Banic

D’ya think following sauerkraut soup with red cabbage is an optimal menu choice?

And how. In fact everyone east of France and Italy will answer “yes”.

  • Lerxst

    Nice xenomorph…..

As for the haircut (as everyone’s commenting) – not bad though I think I preferred the old red ‘Saffron from Republica’-style cut from some time back.

  • RAB

Oh Vanity thy name is Perry!

Some technical glitch is bound to be the reason that particular photo has gone missing I bet!

  • I can see all the images just fine, RAB.

  • Luke... just Luke

    NRA shirt! Way to go.

How did you get the tree to look like that? Very cool.

  • RAB

    Well I couldn’t for a while.
They do that to you, you know
    The Management !
They change things when you’re not looking!!
    That smite control thing!!
It’s pure evil I tell you!!!
You post a post, go away, and when you come back you find one before yours that wasn’t there before you posted and if it had been you wouldn’t have posted what you posted. Everybody still posted?
Then other times you are waiting for your comment to come up and watching others pass you by.
Bloody infuriating!! Still maybe that’s enough of the Absinthe for tonight.
There’s New Years to come after all…

Trust me, it worked perfectly. As for the caramellised parsnips …

  • Yes, the parsnips were… transcendent!
