We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.

Live again

I have been invited to join a panel discussion on Nanny State .vs. Personal Responsibility scheduled for 10.00pm UK time tonight on BBC Radio Five.

I do not know the identity of my protagonists yet, nor do I have any idea as to whether or not the broadcast is available outside of the UK.

Should be fun, though.

Tonight I take it? Anyway, anyone can listen online from the website. Good luck and have fun!

Just finished listening. Great stuff! David, you didn’t really have to argue much after that lady-leftist put her foot in her mouth and branded the majority of smokers ill educated commoners!

Interesting. They didn’t talk to you much, David, did they? They also didn’t read out any e-mails that were anti-ban (they certainly got one – I sent it!)

Didn’t feel that was particularly balanced – a bit annoyed that they managed to get an anti-libertarian jibe in at the end, to say the least!

Mmm shame you didn’t get to reply with any length to the caller objecting to your abolition of compulsory education – libertarian arguments against compulsory education might have woken up a few people.

  • What was amusing was that those of us who know David know that he was this close to also calling for the abolition of the NHS and the legalisation of all drugs. Kind of a shame that he didn’t get asked to comment at that point of the discussion. The caller in question would have hopefully had apoplexy.

A good performance, ably helped by that guy from Slough, a place I have a new-found respect for :P. Handled the low blow at the end rather well I thought. Gotta be careful of issue drift on these things though – you don’t get much time, so throwing in too many issues means you get less time to explain any of them, which isnt good. I did wonder if David would be able to keep his “impulses” under control, but he kept focused, made his point and made it well.
