Update

In response to a couple of kind inquiries from readers, a quick update on my personal situation. The job search grinds on, although I am getting some good interviews. Later this week I go to Dallas to interview for a position I would very much like to land. Home to Texas! Spin a prayer wheel for me.

My visit a few weeks ago to the Minneapolis gun show was semi-productive. I got to handle a number of pistols, and pretty well settled on a 4-inch barrel, single stack .45 as the kind of gun I will eventually purchase to carry. The Kimber was veerry nice, but pricey, as was the Springfield. The HK USP Compact may just carry the day, though. Sadly, more research will be needed, more gun shops will be visited, and a regular paycheck will need to be found, before this issue is closed.

Robert – I don’t have a prayer wheel any more, but consider the prayer wheel of the mind and spirit spun for you. Home to Texas! God, I love that state! And Big D! I think you’ll be OK.

We have better gun shows in TX, you may want to wait until you’re back home before you buy. See also here

You need to come down into the south where so much money is circulating as to make the purchase of a thousand dollar pistol moot. The only thing necessary is basic intelligence and a work ethic. With those, you are set for life.

Why is researching guns a bad thing? I’d think it’s especially good if you’re doing empirical research. 🙂

    RC,

Good luck in landing that job in Texas. Great state, good laws on guns, and, of course, the best Tex-Mex food and barbeque on earth. I suggest that once the regular paycheck starts rolling in, you buy at least two of the three guns. That way you can do the needed testing to determine superiority at your leisure… 😉

Excellent choice of firearm, IMHO. Nothing feels or performs quite like a good single stack .45, and nothing looks quite as slick yet menacing as a 1911 model.

No clue about Texas though. The people were nice enough the one time I passed through. Although any state that prompts socialist windbags to make the same “and in Texas you’d get shot for doing that” remark is OK by me.

An M1911A1 projects such an image that the sight of it alone is a universal “oh no”. Carried one as an M60 AG then gunner and finally bought one of my own before I retired form Uncle Sam’s Green Hordes. No pistol on the planet can be fired so often and take such abuse! A GREAT Choice my friend!

You need a CZ75 BD, if you think the 15+1 9mm is underpowered it comes in 10+1 .40

I like the 1911 but just gotta recommend the many other fine fine choices at CZ for carry.
