The steady advances in cloning technology holds a great deal of hope the future of the species and the news from Korea and Britain has been pretty damn encouraging over the last few years. It now looks like we could be on the brink of being able to mass produce stem cells and that, boys and girls, could be the gateway to a new era of medical possibilities.

I had already determined to live forever, and this news means I am less likely to have to bugger about looking for the philosopher’s stone.
Tin hats on, though. We are about to be deluged with objections from the ‘if God had meant us to…’ brigade.
If they enjoy suffering, they’re welcome to it. For the rest of us, the prospects offered by this technology are truly the most signficant scientific breakthrough of our (with any luck very extended) lifetimes.

I’m waiting for people to realize they have to come OUT of retirement. Some pensioners might expect to be supported in “retirement” indefinately. Some taxpayers aren’t going to like that.
A rough calculation on the back of an envelope reveals I have to work until I am about 250 to be able to afford to retire. Being able to do this seems good to me.
Of course in 220 years time, the concept of ‘work’ may be problematic. But either way, I would like to find out and I look down on religious and other luddites who would stand in the way.
