The way in which they miss the point, is exactly why Labour does. It describes a desire for democratic control of institutions as a ‘dark path’ yet simultaneously support a party that is bringing in Digital ID, curtailing jury trials and the rest. We are on a dark path already.

Gawain Towler is correct on this.
Nothing much for me to add.
The creation of multiple quangoes not directly responsible to Ministers and/or Parliament means ‘democratic control of institutions’ is no longer possible anyway. Thus we are lumbered with the OBR and CCC for example, to whom Ministers are beholden and must obey even if their pronouncements make as much sense as a chocolate teapot.
