We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.

Crusader latrines

Michael Jennings is now, as he recently said here that he would be, in Israel. Knowing my fondness for amusing multilingual signs, he today emailed me this photo, taken in Acre:

CrusaderLatrinesS.jpg

At first I thought that “Crusader” was some kind of business brand, although on second thoughts probably not. Maybe … actual crusader latrines? To clear up any doubt, Michael added:

It means exactly what it says.

Yes indeed, these are latrines which were once upon a time used by crusaders. And here, I presume, are those very latrines.

Don’t you just love the internet?

Never mind that! Has alisa given him air-lodgings and an air-greeting!? And what is the state of Liberty and libertarian thought in Israel? The public wants to know!

IIRC, the crusaders in question happened to be the Hospitaliers, who happened to be French – I wonder if this fact would explain the communal nature of the facility…[no French-bashing was intended by the author of this comment].

Nuke: it sounds like an Australian libertarian and an Israeli one would find a lot in common.

You’ll be in good hands with Alisa, Michael. She’s bound to know where the ones with seats are. 😉

The wife and I and the bonkers dog, spent a lovely day with her down here in Bristol and Bath, last September.

Indeed, RAB – and it already seems like a long time ago…

I must admit that when I first saw the photo I assumed that some Islamist was calling any non-Muslim a “Crusader”, and that this was where the Infidels were supposed to go… it’s getting a bit thick out here!

“Crusader Latrines” sounds like a great name for a rock band.

Not as good as “The Bi-Polar Bears” and I’m thinking of going on the road as that. 🙂

  • Alisa

But RAB, where’s the toilet humor in that?

I’ll give it a go for you Alisa. 😉

Do Bi-Polar Bears shit in the woods?

    No, in David Attenborough’s shoes.
