We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.

Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

I just ran across the apocalyptic biblical quote:

And in those days shall men seek death and not find it and shall desire to die and death shall flea from them – Revelations 9:6

In a sudden heavenly flash of deep preternatural understanding and prognostication the true meaning of this ancient prophecy suffused my being.

We are going to capture all the suicide bombers and lock them up for life! I also inferred from it that we will soon have the nanotechnology necessary to extend life to lengths most find unimaginable. This will allow us to lock up these self-portable munitions for even longer.

The sheer ridiculousness of bumping into a biblical quote that just happened to be around the corner as you turned in (happens to me all the time) followed by the logical(?) matched to current R&D appealed no end.

    Or: lol!

    Nice.

    Dale,
    You gettin’ religion?

And if it “fleas” from them might that instead be a reference to the de-lousing procedures at Gitmo?

Of course it was a joke.

However, there is a serious point here.

A successful suicide bomber can not be punished – he is dead (although I have no problem with their mortal remains being fed to pigs).

But a unsuccessful suicide bomber is not guilty of murder (the bomb did not go off) so (on the basis of an eye for an eye) should NOT be executed.

But they should be punised for trying to murder people. And life in prison seems fair enough – life meaning life.

The bad side of this is that there will be good people abducted to try and get a “prisoner exchange”. But “no” must be said to all such prisoner exchanges – even if this means that the good people get tortured to death.
