We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.

Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

The Hammer of God

Is Saddam Hussain dead? It is looking increasingly likely that he was killed in a coalition air strike. On one hand it would have been nice to see him on trial for his life, or better yet, end up like Mussolini, hanging in a public square… but dead is dead and that is good enough.

Sic Semper Tyrannis.

That latin phrase has good meaning and sounds powerful, but I must admit that it makes me queasy because it has been used by the worst sort here in the states.
It is said that this is what Booth stated as he assisinated Lincoln and McVay wore a t-shirt bearing this epitath the day he perpetrated his crime.

See him on trial for his life before a judge and jury chosen by whom? The UN, with taxpayer funded battalions of attorneys and translators and ‘human rights’ counsellors? The EU, with taxpayer funded battalions of attorneys and translators and ‘human rights’ counsellors? Oops, I forgot! Of course, it would be The Hague, the self-proclaimed “world capital of justice” where there is no death penalty for mass murderers and torturers! Europe is soooooo civilised! I suspect the UN is also against the death penalty, despite a membership made up in large part of thugs, kleptomaniacs and mass murderers. Better that Saddam is buried under the rubble. Like Osmana. Maybe one day we’ll get a smear of his DNA. Who cares? If he has been given refuge in Syria, one of our people, one day, will render him a corpse person … although hanging from a lamp post would have been nice … if only for the Iraqis to have had the satisfaction of bashing the soles of their shoes against on TV.

Bin Laden is down. Saddam is down if not now, within a couple of months in a private ceremony. Who’s going to be number three? Any predictions, fellow Samizdatas?

It’s much easier for the US and UK if Saddam is just outright killed in battle. If we had captured him alive, that would be just one more issue to argue about with the Axis of Feeble and their street lackeys. Justice was done, efficiently and effectively.

A Swedish newspaper announced the other day that USA/CIA let Saddam escape to Russia.

My apologies for not being able to provide you a link (it would be in Swedish anyway…) but maybe someone who’s interested could do a little search and see if that absurdity appeared elsewhere than Sweden? I doubt that though…

Saddam Hussein alive or dead? I suppose it would make things simpler if we knew, but I have a fantasy…
Alive, I hope, sealed behind deep wrecked tunnels in a bunker with his sons, a few generals, and 100 years worth of food and water. I hope he has electricity, TV and lights. May he grow old and crazy in isolation, and may the world never see them again.

  • ‘Sic Semper Tyrannis’ is the motto of the Commonwealth of Virginia, on the seal as suggested by George Mason, among other good people. On the seal, Virtus is standing with her foot on a tyrant’s chest.

Booth and McVeigh undoubtedly said a lot of things, and wore a lot of T-shirts, in their lives. ‘Sic Semper Tyrannis’ has far more behind it than the acts of those two; letting them appropriate it to their own use would itself be giving in to a kind of tyrrany.
