We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.

Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

Samizdata quote of the day – Europe’s philosophic sickness edition

“The funniest thing I’ve ever heard is that the kids are rioting in Paris because of `educational inequality’. I was taught in classes of 30 in wooden huts so cold you could see your breath in winter, but it never occurred to me to burn down the town hall. This isn’t a `legitimate expression of rage’, it is a pathology, evidence that the whole of Europe – not just France – has a cancer, of which violence and decay are merely the symptoms. Our tumour is bad philosophy. It has been growing for years.”

Tim Stanley, Daily Telegraph (£)

  • Ironically, Tim Stanley is an exemplar of the very mindset that permeates the ‘Conservative’ wing of the Uniparty

Perry, maybe, but he’s right on the money here.

    *It’s all so tiresome* meme

This has been predicted for at least 25 years by what the legacy media would call the Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar Right. And the enablers of the Faaaaaaaaaaaaar Left – part & parcel of current evenements en France are still in complete denial as to their responsibility…..

I mean what do you expect if you tell kids from the cradle that they have a right to this and a right to that. Maybe they actually believe you?

France is the very epitome of suicidal empathy where the work rules have gotten crazy, 35 hours a week (though that is too much and they are trying to reduce it) masses of vacation and fully paid PTO, retirement on huge pensions in your 50s, free healthcare, free school, free university, free everything. I think a lot of people here in the USA would take some pretty direct action were the government try to take away our right to own weapons for defense, or our right to speak our minds without government censorship. So if you think “free everything, and a pony” is a right at that same level (which of course it isn’t — they are categorically different) then their reaction is very much in line with this.

And in a world with “free everything” if you have the suicidal empathy to allow any waif and stray, any terrorist and monster from around the world to take up residence in your country and tap into that endless flood of “free everything” then how can the result not be exactly what we are seeing? I mean just as well the English are very “don’t make a fuss” or it’d be happening there too.

There is a saying: what is the difference between a human and a dog? If you find a dog lying sick and starving in the gutter, you pick it up, clean it off, feed and and bind up its wounds, then the dog will be grateful and will not bite you in the face or rip out your throat.

When I think of that saying, I think of Ilhan Omar, the very poster child for such behavior.
