Samizdata quote of the day – The British state has delegitimised itself, expect it to act accordingly

Months before Starmer’s departure, Dominic Cummings appeared on Michael Gove and Madeline Grant’s Quite Right podcast and issued Nigel Farage with an extraordinary warning. Cummings predicted that senior figures around Whitehall would conclude that they had made a historic mistake by allowing Brexit to happen and would not repeat it with Reform. In the imagined voice of this establishment, he said: “Let’s smash the absolute living shit out of Farage and make sure that he doesn’t win it by fair means and foul.”

Cummings went further. He predicted leaks of medical records and tax records, phone bugging and the disclosure of private information.

Well? Who’s going to stop them?

    llater,

    llamas

  • Roué le Jour

We seem to be witnessing the implementation of Viet Nam maxim “destroy the village to save the village” right in front of us. In our case it is destroy the country to save it from our political opponents.

  • Stuart Noyes

Im not certain there’s ever been a time when the British state was legitimate. Im all ears for arguments that it has?

  • Paul Marks

llamas – no one will stop them, no one CAN stop them – the British public are disarmed and helpless, and many of them are indoctrinated by the endless propaganda “Liz Truss crashed the economy”, “Britain was built by Diversity”, and-so-on.

On the “bright” side – Mr Farage is not doing well in the polls now, so the establishment have no need to frame him as a pedophile, or whatever they were planning.

Yes it is not good, from the point of view of Mr Farage, that he will not be Prime Minister – but better that than being sent to prison on fake charges. And British prisons are not the basically decent places they used to be – they are nightmare Hellholes now, often dominated by Islamic, and other, gangs.

As for the general legitimacy of the British state – Mr Jacob Rees-Mogg was rather shocked by the reaction to his YouTube recruitment drive for a war – it was not just leftists who did want to “die for Britain” (or rather “die for the establishment” – which is a rather different thing) – most people on the right did not want to join up either, because they despise the “British state” – they do not want to die for it.

Telling the English that they do not exist (or were just a social construct – not a people) was also not a good idea – it did inspire a desire to join the armed forces, in spite of the endless advertising to do so (and the advertising to join the armed forces is everywhere).

What the establishment might do is make benefits conditional on accepting military service – including for all the young men who are mental health benefits (because there is nothing physically wrong with them).

The establishment may consider such a policy.

    …senior figures around Whitehall…

I get sick of hearing this rubbish. These people are not scary Sir Arnolds, they are barely Bernards. Whenever Rupert Lowe drags one in front of a committee they look like something you would find in a pool at the bottom of a cave, squinting in the light. They have been running the country from the shadows for decades and all we have to show for it is a bureaucratic tree house the size of Versailles crushing the English oak. Enough already.

  • Paul Marks

Roue le Jour – I hope you are correct, but I fear you are mistaken.

Look how effective the indocrination is – most people believe that before the Welfare State the only provision for the poor was the Workhouse and that conditions in these places were sadistic, twice as many people were on out-relief (not in Workhouses) than in-relief and conditions in Workhouses in the early 1900s, whilst hard, were LESS hard than anywhere else on the planet (and were certainly not sadistic) – see the Majority Report of the Royal Commission on Poverty – which is ignored by establishment historians who concentrate in the Minority Report – written by people who, personally, did nothing for poor other than talk – whereas the people who wrote the Majority Report helped the poor with their own money and their own hands.

And it is not just this “ancient history” – most people think that firearms were always illegal in Britain, when only a few decades ago legal firearms were common, most people think that the poor did not get hospital treatment before the creation of the NHS – they have no idea that most hospitals were charitable.

And most people think that the Covid lockdowns “saved lives”, that there was no effective Early Treatment, that the Covid “vaccines” (which were not vaccines) were “safe and effective”.

And most people think that “Liz Truss” (who, in reality, was not allowed to do anything) “crashed the economy” – not 400 Billion Pounds (plus) of counter-productive (harmful) Covid spending “crashed the economy”.

If the British establishment is as incompetent and useless as you claim it is – how come the British public have been so effectively indoctrinated to believe false, horribly false, things.

The British establishment could destroy Mr Farage (frame him on false charges – whatever it took) – but they will not need to, as he will not become Prime Minister (see the opinion polls) and if, by some astonishing chain of events, he DID become Prime Minister – he would not do anything that the establishment firmly forbad.

You mention Rupert Lowe – look which way Mr Farage jumped when he had to choose between Rupert Lowe and Zia Yusuf, this was NOT about personal likes and dislikes – it was about a signal that he, Mr Farage, was not “Islamophobic” – he has said it himself “we must not alienate Islam”.

A Reform Party government (which is very unlikely anyway) would NOT do anything to stop the demographic transformation of this island. They might want to (really want to) – but they know that the establishnent would not tolerate any real effort to stop the transformation.

Remember the real concern is no longer “immigration” it is now BIRTHS. A rather more difficult matter.

Will you wait a bit longer before acting? Wait until enough of your fellow citizens have been guillotined to justify an uprising? From this side of the Atlantic, it seems to me the peoples of the UK are waiting too long to act. The frog pot water is near boiling now!

If you do not think it’s too late to act, what can be done? What should be attempted?

  • Paul Marks

    GregWA – “uprising”?

What part of “disarmed and helpless” do you not understand? And a large part of the population are indoctrinated – they actually believe the endless lies of the education system, mainstream media, and the government. Not even the Covid madness has shaken this.

Only two years ago (summer of 2024) fairly mild (fairly mild by the standards of both the left and the forces of Islam – but these protests were by “right wingers” so “that is different” – two tier policing and a two tier “justice” system) protests were viciously punished.

The state Roue le Jour claims is incompetent, was suddenly incredibly efficient. People who were not even involved in the protests were punished – forced to plead guilty by threats that they would be found guilty by what were basically “drum head” courts. A legal system that normally takes years to do anything – crushed the dissenters in days.

The state is indeed incompetent at things it does not care about – such as health care (cancer screaning was cancelled during Covid – but abortions continued, life is cheap here), but it is incredibly efficient at things it does care about – such as indoctrination (“Liz Truss crashing the economy with reckless tax cuts”, half a trillion Pounds of Covid madness? “move along – nothing to see here”) and crushing the dissent of those people it does not fully indoctrinate.

“frog pot water is near boiling now” – we know.

    “what can be done?”

    Not much can be done.

There is little chance of a Conservative-Reform pact for the next General Election (if we even get there – remember it is three years away), and withouy such an agreemnt – victory is impossible.

And even if we won the election – what would the establishment allow us to do?

  • Paul Marks

For the sake of fairness I must admit that if the Jacob Rees-Mogg thesis is correct – then things are fine and will continue to be fine.

If the English do not exist (or are just a Social Construct) then they can not be under threat of destruction – as what does not exist can not be destroyed.

If our society is sound and vastly better than other societies – then such things as the family, and all other cultural instutitons, can not have been in decline for many decades – we must have dreamed the cultural decline of the last 60 years or more.

And if Islam is good, and the problem is a few nasty “Islamists” who do not represent the teachings and personal deeds (actions) of Muhammed, then a rising Islamic population is no cause for concern.

All is well – so we can go to sleep.

  • Paul Marks

This is not just about Britain – it is a general Western World matter.

For example, in 1994 the people of California overwhelmingly passed Proposition 187 “Save Our State” which limited the amount of government benefits and public services that illegal (illegal) immigrants could recieve.

But the leftist (please do not use the word “liberal” – people like John Bright or Gladstone or Grover Cleveland are liberal – Karl Marx and his “Critical Legal Theory” followers are NOT liberal) judges just struck down what the people had voted for.

California is finished now – the position is hopeless, parasites (who hate and despise the United States) are in vast numbers in the State – the judges, the establishment (including the education system which produced the judges and so on) cut-the-throat of California.

Similar things have happened in France, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy – and on and on.

The left controls the establishment – and the establishment has more power than the people.

  • Paul Marks

Where was the “uprising” in Calfornia after the judges subverted democracy in 1994? When Proposition 187 was overturned because the leftist judges did not like what the people voted for – and because the judges wished to destroy “reactionary Western society”. Were the judges stripped, tarred-and-feathered, and hung from trees? No they were not.

What about when the judges ruled in 1982 that taxpayers in Texas had to pay for the education of the children of illegal (illegal) immigrants? Did the people shoot the judges? No they did not.

How about when Supreme Court Justice Brennan made up the idea that the children of illegal immigrants were covered by “birth right citizenship” – ignoring the words “subject to the jurisdiction thereof” in the 14th Amendment, was he killed? No he was not.

How about when the 1965 Immigration Act opened the gates of the United States to hostiles – any revolt? No there was not. Also nothing when the 1964 Civil Rights Act created a special government group tasked with spreading lies (pretending that white people are the aggressors – even though far more white people are killed by nonwhites than the other way round) – and even forcing the relatives of murdered people to come out with absurd platitudes (“I love tacos – we must all get along and love each other”) to “help community relations”.

Any revolt then? No there was not.

How about when “bussing” took children into schools where they would be robbed, sexually assualted and generally brutalized – were the judges who ordered this “bussing” killed? No they were not.

So perhaps Americans should look at themselves before condemining the, unarmed, British for not having a revolt (an uprising) against the establishment.

It is easy to talk, or write, about an uprising – far harder to organize a successful uprising.

  • Roué le Jour

    Paul,
I didn’t mean to suggest that they were incompetent, far from it, look upon their works and despair, a bureaucracy out of all proportion to the country it “serves.” Rather I was suggesting that if these magicians behind the curtain were dragged out into the sunlight the general reaction would be, “You’re terrified of him?”

The whole charade of British government is tiresome. Newspapers carry articles proclaiming prime minister Burnham thinks this, prime minister Burnham will do that, when the man scarcely has the authority to choose between digestives and Hobnobs at elevensies. He has as much control over the government as Ronald has over Macdonalds.

  • Paul Marks

Roue le Jour – the people with the firearms are loyal to them, not to us. The police would drag us to the cells – the collectivist bureaucrats will not be dragged anywhere. And appeals to the monarch (which some people made – as late as 2024) failed to understand that the monarch supports the same world-view as the rest of the establishment.

I agree that Prime Minister Burnham is not an important figure – he is just a figurehead, but that is cold comfort.

It is different in the United States – but not totally so.

For example, “no taxation without representation” has been broken even in moderate States such as New Hampshire and Missouri – with judges ordering higher spending on education, financed by taxation, because in their (unelected) opinion spending was not “equitable”.

Were these judges “dragged” anywhere? No they were not.

The men with guns, who back up the tax collectors, obeyed the judges.

Even the Trump Administration is weaknened from within.

For example, the campaign against the “International Criminal Court” a Kangaroo Court of the accused International Community, which is a direct threat to the American independence – and to the independence of all other natiojns, is barely underway – and the Trump Administration has been in office (but not in power?) for almost two years.

Even now we are told the “International Criminal Court” will have a “grace period” of many months before there are financial sanctions – in short nothing will really be done to destroy this organ, or the rest of the International Community totalitarians.

Shades of the inaction against the Islamic Republic of Iran – a campaign that should have been completed in two weeks has dragged on for seven months, crippling the chances of winning the Midterm elections.

Whoever suggested this half hearted approach – wanted the Dems to win.

There is still time, even now – but I fear the half measures will continue.

I desperately hope there will be decisive action – but I would not bet on the civilian and military bureaucracy in the United States (the real enemy) being defeated.
