… no, of course not. It isn’t the IDF doing it so who cares?
However, I fully expect to read criticism in the MSM of IDF airstrikes aimed at mitigating Islamist attack on the Druze.
The only place the Druze are safe is… Israel.

Quite.
I suspect there may even be a bit of “And those Druze are funny, aren’t they. Not proper Muslims. Definitely Jew-adjacent.”
Even if it is Muslims who are being killed the left does not care (no matter how many Muslims are killed – by the Chinese Dictatorship, or by other Muslims) – unless they can blame the West, or just the Jews.
But it is not just the left – a few people “on the right” have gone down this road.
For example, Tucker “Space Aliens” Carlson and Candice “the Moon landings were faked” Owens – both of these people (who once seemed reasonable) seem to have gone mad – and, sadly, they are not the only people “on the right” who have joined the left in blaming the Jews for almost everything.
– and again, for posterity: “Germany will never forgive the Jews for Auschwitz.”
Ben David,
I very much anyone who was homeless ever sang Lennon’s fauxtopian dirge either: “Imagine no possessions…”
“One person’s terrorist is another’s freedom fighter.”
The silver lining of our woes here in Israel is that they check Jewraeli tendencies for utopian fantasy. Nothing like the sharp pins of real hatred and violence to burst one-world socialist dream-bubbles (“the Palis are noble native Partners for Peace – you fanatic settlers are the neanderthals”).
Nobody sings John Lennon’s “Imagine” in a bomb shelter.
I confess to some schadenfraude watching the implosion of progressives back in my native New Yawk – and the particular dilemma of progressive Jews, many of whom have been condescending, uncomprehending, and nasty to their Jewraeli brethren.
“One person’s terrorist is another’s freedom fighter.”
Hesitant to paraphrase but I definitely want to reach for my revolver.
This is a category error: one (the terrorist) describes a method, the other (the freedom fighter) describes a desired outcome and they’re completely independent variables: you can be both, neither or just one of the two and you can usually put the protagonist clearly in one of the 4 boxes as soon as you disaggregate the variables.
What the Pedant-General said.
🙂
And I meant to add a rejoinder: in 99% of cases, the speaker of that awful aphorism is usually doing so specifically to avoid having to admit that they are indeed dealing with a terrorist with no interest in anyone’s freedom.
Were the Druze at threat of massacre from the previous Assad government?
Only Druze who opposed Assad in any way whatsoever. Syrian civil war was a bit like the Spanish Civil War: no good guys by any reasonable measure other than right at the start. Dogs dinner since 2011.
But what does it matter now? Syria probably needs to be split along ethnic/religious lines (Kurdish north (Turks will not like that), Druze/Christian area next to Golan (Israel probably will like that)). Something similar might be true for Lebanon.
