We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.

Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

Samizdata quote of the day

As someone who has consistently been in favor of in-your-face attempts to offend Muslims (e.g., “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day”), I can’t very well advocate any governmental effort (or any violent effort by other parties) to prevent the building of this in-your-face attempt to offend non-Muslim Americans. But to suggest that this center is not provocative, and that Americans should not see it as such, insults my intelligence. There is no right to NOT be offended, but we have every right to be offended, and to protest loudly to that effect.

That’s assuming they can actually hire enough workers to build the thing.

  • Exactly Eric. Exactly.

Actually, Gene’s comment represents the precise reason why one shouldn’t applaud or engage in gratuitously-inflammatory actions which offend someone else’s sensibilities.

It’s called “good manners”, and we lack it nowadays.

That said, however, I would love to see the Muslim reaction if, after said mosque is built, a gay bar or strip club is built right across the street, as comedian Greg Gutfield has suggested should be done.

Construction workers are already beginning to push back.

  • Thank you very much for the link, Laird, it’s very encouraging.

It’s good to know the location of the public open air urinal in NYC should I ever have reason to visit.

if this building is an attempt to persuade we infidels to consider becoming muslim, it doesn’t seem to be working too well, does it?

As everyone is agreed – the Muslims have a total legal right to build a mosque on land they own.

However, to pretend that this is not a slap in the face for the 9/11 families (and for the United States – and for the West generally) is breathtakingly dishonest.

Almost needless to say the Economist magazine has been leading the “liberal” charge that the mosque is a wonderful thing, that the Iman is a “moderate”, that Islamic Spain (hence “Cordoba project”) did not launch attacks EVERY YEAR against Christians, and so on and so on.

The left seem to have decided to ally with Islam against the West. Of course, should they win and destroy the West, Islam will then turn on them.

However, thinking about what happens AFTER they win has never been a strong point of the left.

And violate the city’s law against trans-fats?

Pour that bacon on Bloomberg’s house. Fried in lard.

  • Alan: Bloomberg is Jewish:-)

  • How about lox deep-fried in beef fat? Is that kosher enough?

Has anyone told the NYC food fascists that bagels have an awful lot of calories?
