We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.

Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

No blood for burgers!

So George ‘Hitler’ Bush and his shadowy cabal of extreme right-wing neo-conservative warmongers are, once again, showing their contempt for the peace-loving, democratic will of the international community:

The United States is challenging a strategy by the World Health Organization (WHO) to tackle obesity.

Some scientists accuse President Bush’s administration of planning to water down proposed junk food regulations, in order to protect big business.

No mention of who these ‘scientists’ are, mind. Perhaps they are Indyscientists.

Anyway, I support the WHO. I think it is only reasonable and fair that I should be told what I can and cannot eat by a panel of experts from Libya, Chad, Cuba and North Korea. It’s for my own good!

  • You’ve gotta admit, the North Korea diet would ensure everyone, save Dear Leader of course, lost weight…

Starvation in the short term actually cause weight gain (your body realizes what’s going on, even if you don’t).

    I really don’t understand why WHO’s in a tizzy.

People die sooner, population control and all that extra pension money they never used.

Gotta love Georgie boy. He’s no libertarian, but he sure pisses off all the right people.

Ahhh, gotta love the concept of “Public Health”

The State is to care for the elevating national health by protecting the mother and child, by outlawing child-labor, by the encouragement of physical fitness, by means of the legal establishment of a gymnastic and sport obligation, by the utmost support of all organizations concerned with the physical instruction of the young.

Hey, what would happen if these knuckleheads treated HIV like they do tobacco, sugar, and fat?

The Guardian does name one of them, and I researched him a bit:

    Overweight? Blame Bush, Cronies

I love it. Maybe we’ll just impose Soviet style communism across the globe and let people starve their way from one winter to the next right? That will ensure that they are both healthy and thin, and while we are at it; our pollies can be fat and eat as much as they want. After all, if they can’t get their snails from France, the caviar, and rare squid all in the same day…they simply are going to have to execute a few lower not-quite humans who held up their shipments by not being quit healthy enough!

This is the way it should be!

That was dripping in sarcasm for those who missed it.

Thinking of it – communism solved many of the problems of humanity:
    1. Obesity.
    2. Consumerism.
    3. Environment pollution by cars.
    4. The pension or retirement fund crisis.
    5. Overpopulation.
