We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.

British Schizophrenia

I remember seeing an American-made TV movie thriller a few years ago where a young female babysitter, alone in a big house, receives threatening phonecalls from a psychotic killer. She calls the police who advise here to stay calm while they trace the origin of the calls. Meanwhile the abusive phonecalls from the killer grow more deranged and fenzied. Terrified out of her wits, she then receives a call back from the police telling her to get out of the house: they’ve traced the call and it’s coming from an upstairs bedroom!

Well, we’re all young female babysitters now; a transformation formally recognised by the Telegraph:

“Terrotist recruitment and fundraising by Islamic militants centred on a London mosque were ignored for years by the British security services, a former Special Branch informant claimed yesterday.”

Perhaps the spooks were on leave or something.

“While his British handlers preferred to keep a watching brief on the mosque, where the imam is the radical cleric Sheikh Abu Hamza al-Masri, the French became increasingly infuriated.

French counter-terrorism experts refer to the capital as “Londonistan” because of the number of wanted extremists who have sought and found safe haven there.”

We actually managed to infuriate the French through lack of action. Surely a world first?

“”The French felt British law was very, very soft on these people. Britain was looking at Irish terrorists; it couldn’t see the threat. It gave these people flats, benefits, passports, citizenship.”

That’s a relief. For a minute I was worried that some of their needs were not being fully catered for. Anything else required? Satellite TV? Chauffeur-driven limousine? Jacuzzi? Comfort girls?

As I type, Detectives from Scotland Yard are jetting off to Bali to look for terrorists. One wonders what, precisely, has been stopping them from taking a bus to Finsbury Park? And if any non-Britons are mystified as to how this bureacratic indifference on the home front squares with Tony Blair’s (quite genuine, I believe) hawkishness in the War on Terror, all I can say is, join the club.

Whatever the explanation (assuming there is one at all), we find ourselves in the tangled undergrowth of the most dangerous possible combination of tactics in response to Islamic terrorism: aggressive foreign policy and an inept domestic policy.

Those phonecalls are getting increasingly threatening. I sincerely hope we don’t all end up running from the house screaming.

The answer probably lies in the fact that they did not want islamofascist bombs going off on the London Underground – IRA bombing campaigns were enough of a headache.

British policy has been guided by appeasement and surrender for decades – it would be too much to expect them to change now. The intelligence probably exists, just no one has the balls to do anything about it.

  • David, thanks for stating the bleeding obvious (and I’m not being sarcastic).
One of our more awful America cable news channels, MSNBC, had this bubble-headed blonde named Ashleigh Banfield (who I call Ashleigh MINEFIELD) actually interviewing this Sheik Hamza Al-Masri bastard, as if he were a world leader or a civilized diplomat [This is that Captain Hook mofo with the hook for a hand and one eye missing?]
He spoke with perfect impunity about Islamists taking over England and #10 Downing Street and implementing shar’ia law in Britain soon, very soon and it was OBVIOUS that he wasn’t worried about any British “authorities” and most certainly not the British people standing too very much in his way.
There’s got to be *some way* to deport this goat-f*cking murderer back to the Middle Eastern shite-hole he came from–Britain’s not safe as long as he and his jihadi cabal have other plans for we infidels!

    yeeeee-awn
until there’s any evidence that he’s involved in this stuff, he’s as innocent as any other radical.
Do you want to deport anyone who’s a hardcore communist too?
All this goat f*king talk… take a step back. Lose the racial stereotypes. Try thinking rationally. You’re going down the same bigoted, automatically condemnatory path as the people you criticise.

  • I don’t think so–I’m like Sargeant Friday on Dragnet, “Just the facts.”
Got any proof this towel-headed murdering Jihadi pig doesn’t have carnal knowledge of goats????
    We’ll wait.

    wow.. spell it:

    T-R-O-L-L

    no further comment.

  • I have never been a troll and don’t plan to start now.
Please excuse the misspelling of “Sergeant.”
A_t, I’m not taking back a single thing I said about Islamist Jihadi Muslims.
Isn’t it curious that recent events, especially the recent bombings in Bali, don’t disprove, but rather bear out most, if not all, of the West so-called “stereotypes” of Muslim extremists.
Hamza Al-Masri, mullah of Finsbury Park, lost that hand and eye in previous terror bombings…
And he’s made it no secret that he wants to overthrow by violence and murder every government in Europe, starting with Britain, and replace it with an Islamic state run by shari’a law.
Will you still not call them names when they execute for being gay? Or looking at their sister leeringly? Or cut off your hand for alleged theft?
You apologists for the Extremist Muslim murderers are the real TROLLS.

Certainly, I’m pretty sure most of his opinions are despiccable in my book. Can’t even *try* to argue with you on that one.

But by using racial arab/muslim racial slurs, you’re perpetuating a hostile attitude which will alienate *all* muslims. If you argued against him, treating him as a human being like yourself, rather than a stereotype, your arguments would have far more power.

Ditch the “towel head” rhetoric, ‘cos for every arab who wants to blow you up, there are thousands who don’t, but who will feel insulted by it. More conflict, hatred & misunderstanding is certainly not the route to a safer world. If want to emphasise how enlightened & civilised you are, then act the part.

    A-t,

May I humbly suggest that you read what is written rather than scan over it and make assumptions about what is written.

Nowhere has Jennie referred to ‘all Muslims’ but to ‘Jihdi Muslims’ or ‘Muslim extremists’. Therefore, by definition, she is right and you are not.

However, that aside, you can always lead by example and start a civilised dialogue with Mr.Al Masri yourself. Please do let us know how you get on.

By the way, wholly unjustified accusations of trolling are a surefire way to blot your copybook from the get-go.

aha!! i finally see where david’s trail of harassment comes from.

& sure, her comments were directed at extremist muslims. I understood that all along.

But say I referred to a black man whose actions or opinions I really didn’t like as a “stupid nigger”, would this strengthen my cause? Do you not think I’d be better off without the ‘N’ word, especially if I was wanting to get other black people on my side of the debate?

& i apologise for & retract all accusations of trolling. Now can we discuss things in a sensible manner?

  • slamdaddy

Wasn’t it Chris Rock who made the comment about “Black people Versus Niggers”? If said hypothetcail black man was a “thug” (drug dealer, gang member, rapist, murderer etc) then I think “nigger” would be quite an apprpriate term.
And about Abu Hamza, I think we have some evidence now, seeing as how the police FINALLY got around to raiding his Mosque, and found some terrorists with links to a Ricin plot in London, a stun gun and CS gas among other things.
