We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.

Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

A plea for mutual understanding

Those atheists, people of the book (Christians and Jews), where will they end up? In Surfers Paradise? On the Gold Coast? Where will they end up? In hell and not part-time, for eternity. They are the worst in God’s creation.

– Sheikh Taj Din Al Hilaly, widely noted as Australia’s most senior Muslim cleric and an assumed <sigh> moderate Muslim, unintentionally explains why multiculturalism is quite a bad idea. The Sheikh had, in the same sermon, described unveiled and outgoing (as in leaving the house) women as “uncovered meat”, and that “if she had not left the meat uncovered, the cat wouldn’t have snatched it.”

Rape away, gents.

  • So multiculturalism is a bad idea because… it hasn’t kept a Muslim from sounding exactly like a Christian?

  • James

Is he saying that Muslim males aren’t bright enough to exercise self-control and will power (not that it even warrants a sufficient amount of it anyway)?

  • Johnathan Pearce

Yes, this appears to suggest that some Muslim men cannot keep their trousers on if a woman walks past showing a bit of face or leg. If one thinks about it for a nano-second, that is deeply offensive to the majority of Muslim men who are as capable of being civilised humans as anyone else.

I recall that several decades ago, a UK judge made comments that were misinterpreted to mean that women who dressed in short skirts “asked for it”. His career was destroyed.

I’ll be most interested to see how feminists comment on this. With one or two marvellous exceptions like Julie Burchill, they have been remarkably tolerant of the rantings of these people.

  • Ken Hagler – careful; the studied contrarian can find himself twisted into very uncomfortable positions…

  • Richard Easbey

    what a gasbag.

  • Brad

Well the good news is, as an atheist, I can rape away regardless of display because my eternal damnation card is already punched.

    Very liberating….

  • Abelard

Mr Hagler obviously hasn’t been to church recently. Having wandered around a few lately, for curiosities sakes, I can reliably inform you that most Christian churches seem to be disappointingly, nay boringly, liberal – the amount of praise for progressive social policies and government programs was quite nausiating, to be frank. (This was around Southern California … YMMV)

  • Ham

Then, it’s a look, a smile, a conversation, a greeting, a talk, a date, a meeting, a crime, then Long Bay jail. Then you get a judge, who has no mercy, and he gives you 65 years.”

Oh for crying out loud! Why won’t the damn thing publish the comments in their entirety?!

    Let’s see if this works:

What Islamic countries do on the web

The country where “sex” is searched for most often on google is Pakistan. Also in the top ten, Egypt, Iran, Morocco, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. When the terms “boy sex” or “man boy sex” are entered guess which four countries top the charts? Pakistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

(Sadly in all these countries, although man-boy sex has long been part of the culture, if you try to practice it you generally end up just fucked by the police.)

Editor’s note: please do not use < or > in the text of a comment like that as it gets interpreted as html, not text. I have ‘cleaned up’ the comment for you.

  • dude, even without seeing the back end of your comment I can see what the problem is… I guess you don’t know much about web-publishing! NEVER use the > or < symbols unless you know the “magic codes” or the site’s HTML will get real confused.

You forgot to mention that Islamic Pakistan is the world’s largest source of Google searches on goat sex, animal sex and donkey sex…

Remember the old Muslim desert proverb: “For children, a woman. For pleasure, a boy. But for shear ecstasy, . . . a goat”.

And to think the late Theo Van Gogh was criticised for reffering to Islamic fundamentalists as geitenneukers (goat-fuckers).

Incidentally, Pakistan also gets more gongs: biggest source of terrorism searches and people wanting to know more about honor killing and rape.

You really couldn’t make this up.

  • J

Just in case others don’t recognise it, the saying actually is:

“a woman for duty, a boy for pleasure, but a melon for ecstasy”

Although it’s ascribed to anyone from the Turks to the Bedouin.

Incidentally, I have no intention of believing the quoted statistics about internet searches without a reference.

The fate of nonChristians after death has caused great argument in Christian circles.

Some hold that “there is no way to the Father, but through me” means that nonChristians can not go to Heaven (although this may not mean that they go to Hell). Other Christians hold that nonChristians go to the Father via Jesus – whether they know it or not.

The mainstream Jewish position is simple. If a person lives an honourable life God will look after that person after death – even if the person is an athiest (so, if the Jews are correct, some people are in for a shock after they die).

“So why do we worship God and obey the 613 principles of the Law” (as most young Jews must ask at one time or another) – “you do not think we do that for a REWARD do you?”

Of course the Jewish faith has not always been like this. I rather doubt that Joshua (who destroyed city after city, murdering or enslaving all the people – because, he claimed, a voice in his head told him to) was very tolerant.

As for “multiculturalism” – even Putman (spelling) the Harvard academic (and “liberal” in the modern sense) admits that multiculturalism tends to promote unhappyness.

Oddly enough it is not just distrust between groups that is promoted – even trust within a group is undermined.

People who live in an area where there are groups who live in very different ways tend to even distrust members of THEIR OWN group more than people who live in a town where the community is united. In short “diversty” (which is held by Western governments to be a sacred good) is actually a bad thing (if one is concerned about human happyness). Of course Putman is not pleased with the conclusions of his research, but at least he was honest enough to announce them (eventually).

Islam is a special issue or course. The Islamic cleric cited above is simply following the practices of Mohammed. The “prophet” did not just talk about non Muslims going to Hell – he murdered them and sacked their towns (there was not a non Muslim city of town left in Arabia by the time he died).

Nor did Mohammed just invent excuses for rape – he raped women (and girls) himself.

Indeed there is an old story that Mohammed was poisoned by one of the women he had enslaved – a Jew, who killed him in revenge for the murder of her family.

Of course later Muslim leaders (such as Omar) were more tolerant of nonMuslims (although even the “Pact of Omar” involves many bad things). And the Sufi tradition in Islam tends to make tolerance and nonaggression central to its understanding of religion.

But there are always Muslims who want to get back to Mohammed – both his life and his teachings (as written by others in the Islamic scriptures).

That is the difference between Christianity and Islam. Many Christians have been (and are) beasts – guilty of every crime there is. But there is nothing in either the life of Jesus or in the Gospels that justifies their crimes.

A Muslim can find plenty in the life of Mohammed or in Islamic scripture (although there are also many good things in Islamic scripture) to justify his crimes.

  • Putting aside the goats and melons for a moment, the very facts about Islam makes me think that as a creed it is in total opposition to the British way of life and Constitution. It does not permit universal sufferage, nor equality. It tollerates all manner of crimes including death penalties, rape, child brides (consumation is permitted) and slavery. It can only function if the right of private religious observance is discarded.

Added to that they push the moon-rock-god Allah as The One, when it tends to spend much of its time in Hell torturing the sinners HE has created/perverted to live a life of sin so he can torture them. Sounds like Satanism to me. If it were, openly, you could excuse it on the grounds of honesty and transparency – “It does what it says on the djinn”, as it were.

  • veryretired

Melons and goats, huh? Geez, you guys must be a lot of fun at parties. (Gives the idea of a melon-baller a whole new meaning, though, doesn’t it?)

Anyway, none of the stuff these sheikhs and imams keep preaching about is at all unusual in various cultures around the world, but it is anachronistic in today’s world to be blathering on about views that were generally abandoned by most everyone else over the past few hundred years.

And that, in many ways, is the crux of the problem with fundamentalist islam—it needs and wants to live in a mideval culture, complete with roaming gangs of fanatical flagellants a la Ingmar Bergman in “The Seventh Seal”. Except that islam’s bunch would be whipping everybody else, not themselves.

As I have said before, islam must reform itself from within, or a culture with a capacity for ferocity and ruthlessness beyond these petty sheikhs wildest dreams will reach a point of no return, and little of islam or its adherents will survive.

I say this with regret, because I know the psychic pain and moral guilt and remorse which will inevitably follow in the wake of such a response by the west, but the recent evidence for that capability is so clear and indisputable that only a very foolish child, indeed, would keep poking a stick into that sleeping bear until they woke it up.

For all our cultural regrets, the dead are still dead from a 20th century almost beyond human understanding in its repeated slaughters, wars, and progroms. I can only pray that somewhere in islam is someone, and more than one, who understands the danger they are in.

It is almost physically painful to watch an entire world-wide cultural/religious/social entity like islam emulate the last act of the “Flying Wallendas”, knowing the mistep is only a matter of time, and they’re way up there, without a net, creeping along that very thin wire.

One gust of wind, one oddly shaped cloud, one overly large sneeze, and all that will be left is the broken bodies on the ground, and a century of regret.

My arthritis must be bothering me today. I sound gloomier than usual, even though I am still a little hopeful that such a scenario can still be avoided.

But everyone, esp. islam, is running out of time.

    Don’t worry Veryretired,
The democrat platform for this election is to hand the Islamist goat aficciandos a life line to extend their perverted lies for just one more season.
If these enlightened folks threw (republican) congressman Foley under the bus for being gay, and doing less than democrats (Barney Frank and Jerry Studds) did, then I expect that they will be eating their own with gleeful abandon when they hand Western Europe to the Islamist scum. Assuminf of course their touchdown dance on the 10 yard line is warrented.

I guess I won’t worry twice! Somebody pass the melons.

If you need me, I’ll be in the barn, saying hi to Billy.

  • And an honourable mention for Brisbane for coming 3rd in “goat sex”.

Appalling though his comments were, he was only repeating what is written (repeatedly) in the Koran.

    This book states that
    i) men are ‘superior’ to women (4:34)
ii) a woman is a ‘field to be cultivated by man as he wills’ (2:223)
iii) that a man may have four wives (4:3)
iv) that a husband may beat a disobedient wife (‘admonish them and banish them to beds apart, and scourge them’ – 4:34)
    v) that a woman must cover up except for the face and hands (24:31)
vi) a man may take a child bride (in Iran the age of consent is 9)
vii) a wife must sleep with her husband if he so asks. “If a husband calls his wife to bed and she refuses, the angels will curse her til morning’.
viii) that a woman must not go out unaccompanied by her husband or close family.
ix) rape is only applicable with four male witnesses

Someone remind me what’s to like about this ‘great religion’.

  • Nick M

Well, they’re savages aren’t they the Koranimals? I’m in Key West at the moment and there are people dancing naked in the streets at night and I don’t see any rape or unpleasantness. They should dump the sheikh on Duval St and watch him wither like the Wicked Witch from Oz.

    Very Retired,
I don’t even share your very guarded sliver of optomism. Islam is gonna have to go the way of the communism. And the best way that can be achieved is by absolutely not taking them seriously at all. Not bending over to provide them with halal this and halal that and greeting sermons such as Taj Din Al Hilaly’s with the derision and scorn they deserve. All that stuff about leaving meat in the streets for cats! For fuck’s sake!

    Anyway, off to the beach!

  • Satan sees women as half his soldiers.

    Only half?

Waterton might be a little scandalised by all this religion talk, but I was raised in a fundamentalist Christian home. All non-fundamentalist-Christians are going to burn in hell for all eternity. Rape victims who wear provocative clothing are asking for it. The man is the head of the wife just as Christ is the head of the Church.

You could go to any small-town fundamentalist Church in a huge swath of America and hear all the same things.

Still happily honeymooning Nick. That’s the stuff!
When I was in Egypt back in May, I found that when us chaps would gather in the bar and chat of an evening, the Egyptians would be telling jokes that would make Bernard Manning blush with their crudity.
Single entendre not even “carry on” double.
Muslim men definately have a problem with their sexuality.
As to melons. Well when I was of an age to first have thoughts of onanism aids (around 13) Melons never occured to me. Being born in the land of the leek, they were about as rare as hen’s teeth.
I think the subtle point of the quotation was that you were to eat the melon not er… well you know.
Couldn’t swear to it mind. I’m just popping down the grocers…

  • Dave

But Nick M, Muslims are not going to go the way of communism. Quite the opposite infact, it is liberals who are dying out, while the world gets more religous.

    Liberals have lost

Don’t forget Donkey Sex. Pakistan, where the men are men and the donkeys are nervous.

  • You could go to any small-town fundamentalist Church in a huge swath of America and hear all the same things.

I was wondering when the obtuse equivalences with Christianity would be drawn (at Samizdata, anyway – the Australian Left drew them instantly – it’s their conditioned response to a high profile Muslim saying something barbarous). Josh, maybe you should familiarise yourself with the man the quote is attributed to. He’s officially Australia’s most senior Muslim, holds the title of “Mufti” and claims he is a moderate. Do you come across many moderate Christian church heads making such claims, even in crazy ol’ bible-bashing US of A?

  • Samsung

It’s not only Australia that is having problems with leading beardy towel-headed imams shouting their mouths off and openly displaying just how barbaric and incompatible their so called “religion of peace” is with our post enlightened Western Civilization. The city of Manchester has one too. It will interesting to see what the Left has to say about this. There are no wicked evil Neo-conservatives involved, just their Islamic ideological allies, so they wont know which way to jump.

(Killing gay men is OK, says British imam)

  • nick M

    Dave,
The “death of liberalism” does worry me a lot. But I can’t accept it. I worry that you are right, though.

    Samsung,
This summer Manchester hosted a huge Islamic “do” – can’t remember what it was called. It had the tag-line “A call to humanity” and was supported financially and in other ways by, amongst others, Manchester’s labour dominated (and therefore “liberal” council).

Put these together. What you got? I don’t think liberalism is dead. I just don’t think most people know what it is anymore.

That’s why I sometimes refer to myself as a liberal. I’m stealing the term back. When certain lefty aquaintances of mine hear what I mean by that there are some sharp intakes of breath I can tell you.

  • Fiona

Also in Islam the testimony in court of a woman is only worth half that of a man and in Saudi Arabia, (the holy land o f Islam), a woman is always legally a minor.

As a child she is under the control of her father, as a wife under her husband, and as a widow under her eldest son.

    What utter rubbish!

Also I don’t like Christianity that much but it does not recommend that you beat up your wife!

Daughter, 31, alleges rapes by Father.

JOHOR BARU (Malasia): A man with three wives and 10 children is believed to have raped one of his daughters.

The 56-year-old unemployed man allegedly took the 31-year-old woman in his car to undisclosed locations in Kulai and Kota Tinggi since September and raped her.

The victim, from the man’s second marriage, finally lodged a report on Oct 24 at the Kulai police station.

In her report, the unmarried factory operator alleged that she felt as though a spell had been cast on her, leaving her powerless to resist the man’s advances.

Johor Baru acting deputy OCPD Deputy Supt Baldev Singh confirmed the case and said a man had been detained to assist with investigations. He said the case was being investigated under incest.

I assume he’ll be using the “uncovered meat” defense.

After all, these Muslim men can’t control their raging genitalia. It’s all the woman’s fault if she excites and torments the inflammable, uncontrollable loins of Muslim men.

It would appear that Muslems just follow their dicks around through life. It’s as though they are not advanced or civilized enough to control their sexual urges. There is something of the grunting caveman about them. You’d think Muslems would do the cat if they could catch it. Oh, the poor bunnies and squirrels in Mecca. Wait, there arent any bunnies and squirrels in Mecca. Well, there you have it, then. Never mind, there’s always the goats and the donkeys to fondle.
