We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.

Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

Samizdata quote of the day – the worst of all worlds

Some people say the government has abandoned us.

I know what they mean – our governments have abandoned their primary function of defending us and our borders.

But in every other area, they are suffocating rather deserting us!

As some bloke named Gerald Ford, noted:

“A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have.”

As an aside, see also, an old bit of military beer rationing wisdom:

“One can, per man. per day, perhaps”.

    Anarcho-tyranny.

  • Paul Marks

Snorri Godhi is correct – it is Anarcho-Tyranny – in many Western nations.

As Governor Newsom showed – even in collapsing California the street criminals could be cleared off the streets when the Dictator of China arrived for a visit. So the street criminals do not have to be there – so why are they there most of the time? Because the government WANTS them to be there – making people afraid to walk the streets.

Ditto with stealing from shops – the government could stop that if they wished to do so, but they do NOT wish to do so.

And the vast influx of hostiles and (yes) the natural increase (births) of these hostile populations – various Western governments want that to. Just as they wish to crush dissent – crush Freedom of Speech, not just in Britain or Germany or France – but also in the United States (a couple of appointments to the Supreme Court and the First Amendment is dead – SCOTUS would become like the ideologically corrupt courts of, for example, Minnesota).

In the United States the 1964 race Act set up a government propaganda unit (little known – but out to push “The Message” even back then) – in Britain a similar unit was set up under the 1965 Race Relations Act – which also started the process of undermining Freedom of Speech – not “just” undermining Freedom of Association, and in the United States the 1965 Immigration Act has done exactly what it was designed to do – fundamentally change the demographic mix of the United States – the very thing that Senator Edward Kennedy and the others denied it was designed to do – they were lying, even back then – more than 60 years ago.

In Germany the “Guest Workers” (a government program) were encouraged to bring in their families from the early 1970s – so for more than 50 years the German government has been actively working, deliberately working, to undermine the historic population.

And do not forget the “Social Revolution” in Western nations which was very much top-down (it was not organic – it was not really anti establishment, although it was presented as such) – designed (yes – designed) to undermine families and reduce fertility.

“We need mass immigration because of the decline of fertility” Why has fertility declined? “Shut up!”. Why should immigrants and their children want to support old people, pensioners, who are not from their own people? “Shut up racist!”

None of this has been libertarian – it has all been pushed by governments and leading Corporate figures.

For example, the libertarian “free migration” idea (whether it is a good or bad idea is another question) is explicitly about a society where there are no government benefits (such as “Food Stamps” – 1961, a sort of copy of the “free food” policy that the gang leader Clodius established in Rome during the dying years of the Republic) or public services, or “anti discrimination” laws, or government propaganda to push new populations – this idea “libertarian free migration” has got nothing to do with what has happened over the last 60 years or more.

It is like claiming that “Free Trade” means endlessly creating “money” to pay for imports – NONE of the great Free Trade economists advocated this system before the 1970s, to say this is what Adam Smith, or A.L. Perry (and so on) wanted – is utterly false. What they wanted was to pay for the import of some goods by the export of other goods – a totally different system, which has nothing to do with the economic system countries such as Britain now have – and yes Keynes (the economist of creating money from nothing) was an active associate of the Bloomsbury Group – he was not friendly to traditional society, quite the contrary – he and his associates (whether in Bloomsbury London – or in Cambridge) wanted to undermine society – because they hated Western society.

Ditto libertarian ideas about society – which are NOT about “atomized individuals” and an all powerful state, libertarian ideas about society are about families and voluntary associations (secular and religious) – exactly what government policy, in many nations, has sought to undermine (yes undermine) for more than 60 years.

There is an great deal of ruin in a great nation – it takes a long time to undermine society, but the establishment elite have had a long time – more than 60 years.

It was as far back as the 1960s that the ideas of such groups as the Fabians and the Bloomsbury Set, and the Frankfurt School – called in the United States the New School of Social Research based at Colombia University from the 1930s onwards (sexual ideas – not just economic ideas) became government policy – as Roy Jenkins (the British Home Secretary) said “a permissive society is a civilized society” – which would have come as a news to Aristotle and others who had taught for thousands of years that the family was the foundation of society – but then their objective was not to radically undermine society, indeed undermine the very existence of historic peoples, nations.

The gradual death of Western nations, Western peoples, is not a natural death – they are being murdered, deliberately destroyed.

Motive or motives? That is complicated – but after so long (generations now) it is largely HABIT now – the establishment elite are undermining Western societies because this is what they have been doing for so long – it is now almost autopilot. Autopilot designed to direct the ship-of-state onto the rocks – or the aircraft into a mountain.

The education system (especially at the highest level) is now totally ingrained with such doctrines, and produces endless government and corporate types to carry on with them – without really thinking about it.

  • Roué le Jour

    Paul,

…the establishment elite are undermining Western societies because this is what they have been doing for so long – it is now almost autopilot.

Pretty much my view. I think the original idea was to weaken society so that it didn’t threaten the state. It was modest at first, but as the growth of the state became increasingly a threat to society ever more suppression was required and here we are.

  • Paul Marks

Roue le Jour – I think it was also doctrine, a world-view that was filled with hatred and contempt for Western Civilization – in the early 1900s that was just a few freaks (the Fabians, the Bloomsbury Set – and so on) – but by the 1960s it had become the default view of the “educated” classes, and not just in Britain – in most of the Western world.
