We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.

Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

The algorithm is grumpy

Due to waves of (mostly) Russian spam hitting our server, the Samizdata SmiteBot is has been grumpy for several days now beyond my ability to manually intervene every time. This means it has been shooting on sight (or maybe on site) & asking questions later. If your comment vanished, now you know why. Do not take it personally unless you are a Russian spammer, in which case take it personally.

I’m curious: just why is Samizdata getting loads of Russian spam? I don’t recall you writing anything that would particularly upset the Russians. Or are you just a random target for some reason?

Whatever the reason, I hop it soon stops.

Well suck it up kitty – my firm and other Israeli hitech companies are conducting business as usual despite rolling cyberattacks.

We are entering our 3rd week of missile alerts every 3-4 hours. Iron Dome is fantastic – there has been only one direct hit since the war began – but the falling shrapnel is almost as dangerous, so you still have to go to the shelter each time.

And since you ask – yes I have been caught in the shower by an alarm. Also while grocery shopping – a brilliant display of diverse human nature…

It’s a long standing problem, probably because our name makes dumb web-bots assume we are Russia-facing (90% of the spam is cyrillic)

Depends what you mean by upset
