Samizdata quote of the day – On Right-Wing Reshuffles

A conservative is actually despairing of finding himself having to call himself ‘conservative’ in the first place.

Even if everyone who voted for the Conservative candidate, the Advance U.K. candidate, and the Libertarian candidate (yes there was one) had voted for Matt Goodwin in the recent by-election – he would still have lost.

Some parts of the United Kingdom are so indoctrinated with Collectivism that they are hopeless areas – and “Gorton and Denton” is, sadly, one of those areas – and, make no mistake, the Green Candidate (now an Member of Parliament) is an extreme collectivist who endorsed “Zack Polanski” (a fake name – but leave that aside) in the Green Party leadership election. People who voted for the lady did not vote for her because they love the environment (woods, fields and so on) – they voted for her because (because) the lady is an extreme “Social Justice” (Collectivist tyranny) person.

Since 1945 (the shock defeat of Winston Churchill) it has been clear that a very large number of people in the United Kingdom have been convinced by agitation-propaganda (agit-prop) that the poverty of some people is caused by the wealth of other people – and that “the people” (meaning the state) should control everything. And that this belief is a core one – not one that can be changed by evidence and rational argument.

Every failure of the state, for example the terrible performance of the National Health Service (NHS) does NOT make such people doubt their beliefs – on the contrary they blame every failure on, non-existent, “cuts in spending” (no matter how much government spending is increased) and, also non-existent, “privatisation”. They also denounce “unregulated markets” no matter how crushing the burden of regulation becomes – indeed neither empirical evidence, or logical arguments (reason) has any effect on such people.

They may be perfectly nice people – but trying to convince them that Collectivism “Social Justice” is the problem, not the solution, is not going to work – they believe that “the rich” are the source of all problems, and that getting rid of “the rich” would solve all problems. This is the doctrine that was believed, by such people, in 1945 when Clement Atlee’s government was elected – and it is the doctrine that these people still believe now – it has gone down the generations and being constantly reinforced by the education system (even some children of “the rich” now tend to believe that “the rich” are the source of all problems – and the state is the source of all things that are good) and the media – including the entertainment media.

How many such people are there in Britain? I do not know – but in “Gorton and Denton” they are clearly the majority of voters – and there is nothing that Matt Goodwin, or anyone else, could have done about that.

And before Americans go away from this comment – there are vast numbers of young people (especially the “educated”) in the United States – who are like this.

As for the groups mentioned in James Alexander’s post – “Prosperity UK” is not on the “center-right” – it is not on the right at all, it is made up of the sort of people that led to Perry regarding the Conservative Party with disgust.

To be fair to Kemi Badenoch – the lady is also disgusted by “Prosperity UK” – understanding that it is an effort to undermine her leadership.

Ask the Members of Parliament in this group “Prosperity UK” what they think of President Donald John Trump and his agenda of deporting illegal immigrants who have committed crimes or taken government benefits, reducing the number of citizens who are also on benefits (for example Food Stamps), reducing domestic taxation, restoring manufacturing in the United States (rather than endless borrowing to “pay for” endless imports), ending the “Carbon Dioxide is evil” cult-policies, ending “DEI” (“Diversity, Equity and Inclusion” – i.e. government pushed racism and sexism against white-straight-men), and getting the nation out of international “governance” bodies such as the totalitarian World Health Organisation.

They do not hate President Trump because of his Queen’s New York City accent (grating though that may be to English ears) – they hate him because of his POLICIES – and they would go almost insane with rage at the idea that such policies should be followed in the United Kingdom (which they should be).
