We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.
Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

The fun is just getting started George Monbiot writes in – I kid you not – the Guardian:
How does the right tear down progressive societies? It starts with a joke
Whether it’s bloodshed at Glastonbury or starving people on benefits, their ‘irony poisoning’ seeps obscene ideas into the range of the possible
|
Who Are We? The Samizdata people are a bunch of sinister and heavily armed globalist illuminati who seek to infect the entire world with the values of personal liberty and several property. Amongst our many crimes is a sense of humour and the intermittent use of British spelling.
We are also a varied group made up of social individualists, classical liberals, whigs, libertarians, extropians, futurists, ‘Porcupines’, Karl Popper fetishists, recovering neo-conservatives, crazed Ayn Rand worshipers, over-caffeinated Virginia Postrel devotees, witty Frédéric Bastiat wannabes, cypherpunks, minarchists, kritarchists and wild-eyed anarcho-capitalists from Britain, North America, Australia and Europe.

Monbiot (perhaps inadvertently) makes an interesting distinction.
It is of course OK to chant “Death to the IDF” or “From the River to the Sea” because those aren’t meant with even a hint of wit or irony.
He really is the twat who keeps on twatting.
The majority of British people are conservative or so I’ve been lead to believe.
“Imagine the furore if a Guardian columnist suggested bombing, say, the Conservative party conference and the Tory stronghold of Arundel in Sussex. It would dominate public discussion for weeks. Despite protesting they were “only joking”, that person would never work in journalism again. Their editor would certainly be sacked. The police would probably come knocking.”
Erm, no, not really.
The majority of evil in history has been done by humourless individuals. Humour requires perspective, which is a contra-indication of extremism.
His examples of things actually happening are not what one would normally label as the British right. One was Irish terrorism, another Islamic.
That happened in 1984. It was done by Kneecap’s heroes wasn’t it?
Forget humour that – especially given the recent death of Lord Tebbit – is beyond parody.
As usual George Monbiot and the Guardian are not just lying – they are reversing the truth.
There is no such thing as a “progressive society” – society is built on customs and traditions over many generations, Progressivism is like acid – dissolving, and undermining, society. And, yes, “jokes” push the obscene (obscenely evil – yes evil) doctrines which George Monbiot and the Guardian serve. A “progressive society” is a society that is decaying, collapsing – what was a society, ceasing to be a society.
The great mistake is to think the left are well meaning – they are not well meaning, no more than the Fabians (see “The Fabian Window”) and the Bloomsbury Set were well meaning – and they certainly used “jokes” as weapons.
As for “from the river to the sea” – this is meant quite literally, seven million Dead Jews.
The desire for mass murder is nothing new in the British left.
H.G. Wells wanted to kill the “teaming millions of blacks, browns and yellows” (note that people who rush to call any conservative “racist” never “cancel” H.G. Wells), and George Bernard Show wanted everyone dragged before a government board to “justify their existence” and if the board was not satisfied – the person was to be murdered.
The southern Irish lilt and the twinkle in the eye must not deceive us – Mr Shaw meant what he said.
The left have not changed – make no mistake, if they had the power to do so, they would kill all of us “reactionaries” – and they would enjoy doing it.
Under the mask of science fiction, Mr Wells shows us what he wants – for example in his short story “In The Days Of The Comet”.
The destruction of traditional art, and of traditional buildings (both must be destroyed – because beauty must be destroyed), even if people have to live in tents “at first” before the modernist blocks can be built to pen everyone.
But it is not just this – no, the family itself must be destroyed, for it is the foundation of society, which be must be destroyed.
Explaining to people such as Wells, or Shaw, or Monbiot that collectivism will not work, that it will mean millions of people dying, has no effect.
It has no effect because they already know that – and mass suffering, and mass death, is what they want.
The notion that Rod Liddle is on the right is itself a fairly good joke.
What’s this line about the fun getting started? George Monbiot has been a figure of fun for decades.
Woosh! The sound of George Monbiot’s self awareness passing over his head. Well over his head.
I don’t usually comment on personalities but he has spouted these lefty fictions over and over again.
Poor George. He really doesn’t realise that the Left has no sense of humour. As Tim Blair said once “we can call ourselves Right Wing Death Beasts” and laugh.
gnome, Mr Monbiot said that the tearing down of progressive societies starts with a joke. I’m saying that you don’t have to tell one joke and stop there; you can carry on making them as you work.
George Monbiot appears untroubled by the vile sentiments expressed at Glastonbury.
He’s a fool.
JP,
Monbiot “Approved This Message”. He’s a cunt, not a fool.
NickM – agreed.
