We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.
Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

Samizdata quote of the day – wilfully working towards a mass casualty event The prevailing narrative in Net Zero ideology is one of a seamless “clean energy transition”. The reality is that their supposedly necessary transition is unlike any in human history because it represents a move down the energy density ladder. Properly understood, the proposal is terrifying.
It’s terrifying because it violates the “Iron Law Of Energy Transition”: successful civilisations always move toward more concentrated, more reliable power sources. Every historical example of a move down the energy density ladder has been involuntary. And every involuntary move down the energy density ladder has produced a mass casualty event.

Who Are We? The Samizdata people are a bunch of sinister and heavily armed globalist illuminati who seek to infect the entire world with the values of personal liberty and several property. Amongst our many crimes is a sense of humour and the intermittent use of British spelling.
We are also a varied group made up of social individualists, classical liberals, whigs, libertarians, extropians, futurists, ‘Porcupines’, Karl Popper fetishists, recovering neo-conservatives, crazed Ayn Rand worshipers, over-caffeinated Virginia Postrel devotees, witty Frédéric Bastiat wannabes, cypherpunks, minarchists, kritarchists and wild-eyed anarcho-capitalists from Britain, North America, Australia and Europe.

Well said. An insane initiative which is neither needed nor remotely beneficial.
Even when the British government seems on the point of getting something right – it then gets it wrong.
For example, when the British government came out as “pro nuclear” I felt the stirrings of hope – should have known it was FALSE hope.
For instead of approving the building of lots of relatively inexpensive, and safe, small modular nuclear reactors – the British government has pledged to spend many Billions of Pounds on a vast reactor – which will not come on-line for many years.
Will not come on-line till well AFTER the cost of energy in Britain, which has been pushed up by “Green” taxes and regulations, has helped destroy what remains of the British economy.
Unemployment is already being pushed up by new labour market regulations (falsely called rights), and both farming and manufacturing are being undermined – by high taxes, high energy costs, and by other attacks.
As for those, who even after 2008, put their faith in “financial services” to sustain a population of almost 70 million people – well you are wrong.
There will indeed be a “mass casualty event” – when (and it is when) the British economy collapses – and I fear it may be as bad (although I hope NOT) as that which hit Ireland in the late 1840s, caused not only by the potato blight, but also by a policy of CRUSHING TAXATION (especially the Poor Law Tax – but other taxes as well, as Ireland was used as a lab for many statist schemes, from a national police force, to a system of government schools) which the history books, with total dishonesty, call “laissez-faire”.
Those who think that only “Free Trade” (free international trade) matters – and that the overall weight of taxes and government spending (and regulations) does not really matter (at least not compared to this “Free Trade”) have ignored the lessons of Ireland in the 1840s – or what is starting to happen in the United Kingdom in our own time.
