We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.
Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

Samizdata quote of the day – energy prices are complicated, but not that complicated The biggest reduction we ever enjoyed in our electricity costs was after the newly privatised electricity industry installed gas power stations across the UK. It halved our electricity costs. The biggest increase we’ve ever seen was after the Government imposed “green” ideology on the electricity industry. It has tripled our electricity costs so far.
So as with every statement made by the UK Government about energy, this one is wrong. Shutting down our oil and gas exploration, and increasing taxes on existing production, makes us poorer.

Who Are We? The Samizdata people are a bunch of sinister and heavily armed globalist illuminati who seek to infect the entire world with the values of personal liberty and several property. Amongst our many crimes is a sense of humour and the intermittent use of British spelling.
We are also a varied group made up of social individualists, classical liberals, whigs, libertarians, extropians, futurists, ‘Porcupines’, Karl Popper fetishists, recovering neo-conservatives, crazed Ayn Rand worshipers, over-caffeinated Virginia Postrel devotees, witty Frédéric Bastiat wannabes, cypherpunks, minarchists, kritarchists and wild-eyed anarcho-capitalists from Britain, North America, Australia and Europe.

On energy costs, which are destroying what is left of British manufacturing and driving people into poverty as they lose their jobs and (even if they stay in work) can no longer afford to heat and light their homes, the argument is simple – not complicated.
People such as myself hold that high energy costs are caused by “Green” taxes and regulations imposed by governments – such as the British government (although, of course, it follows the agenda of the International Community – establishment, as do most, but not all, Western governments).
The alternative view, which won the local elections in the ward where I live (getting rid of me) is that taxes and regulations have nothing to do with high energy costs – which are caused by the “greed” of the “super rich” – these are direct quotes from responses to me on local (“Next Door”) social media.
So there you have it.
Either the cause of high energy costs is “Green” taxes and regulations – or it is the “greed” of the “super rich” – who I, supposedly, serve.
By the way, it is not just “Green” supporters who claim I am corrupt – the Reform Party claimed that I, and other councilors, built up debts of 430 million Pounds for our pay and perks, the budget was balanced every year of the existence of North Northants Unitary Authority – and many thousands of Pounds were spent on internal and external auditors – so Mr Farage’s demand, when he came to Kettering, of “send in the auditors” “audit the accounts” so that supposedly corrupt people like myself could be sent to prison, left me somewhat irritated.
Tragically I am unable to find my share of the 430 million Pounds I, according to the Reform Party, helped steal to fund my lavish pay (in reality I was paid 15 thousand a year) and expenses (I have never made an expense claim in the 60 years I have been on this Earth).
Nor can I find the money that I was, supposedly, paid by the “super rich” to satisfy my “greed” – which has led to high energy prices, which are, according to Green Party supporters, nothing to do with the taxes and regulations that have been imposed.
The goal is not to “save the planet.”
The goal is not to produce abundant inexpensive energy.
The goal is to break the revolting peasants into knowing their place by making them suffer in the dark.
The issue is never the issue. The issue is always the revolution.
————————-
“the revolution” = “us getting power”.
Deep Lurker – agreed. Carbon Dioxide produced in China (and other nations) goes into the same atmosphere as Carbon Dioxide produced in the United Kingdom – so the “Net Zero” (or Pol Pot style “Year Zero”) policy of destroying what is left of British industry and having everything made in China (and so on) will NOT reduce world Carbon Dioxide emissions – if anything it will INCREASE world Carbon Dioxide emissions (China produces more Carbon Dioxide in relation to its production of various things – and there are also transport emissions).
But the Greens will not be unpopular – on the contrary. For example, a few minutes ago two Green Party Unitary Authority Councillors posted (on social media) a photograph of themselves standing by a pothole a few yards from my house. They were NOT filling in the pothole (149 million Pounds of road repair money, our share of the HS2 money, was taken away from North Northants by the new Labour government), and “Green” policy will end private car ownership, for most people (the British electrical grid can not sustain millions of electric cars – so when petrol cars go most people will no longer have cars), but they still got plenty of “likes” and praise – for a photograph of them next to a pothole with concerned looks on their faces.
And as poverty increases, which it will, they will post lots of photographs (and films) of themselves by the local food bank – again looking concerned, and perhaps handing out food to the poor (such as myself).
So as things get worse and worse – so they will become more and more popular.
In local government it (becoming popular by making things worse – making people poor and dependent) is called the “Curley Effect” – named after Democrat Mayor Curley of Boston in the early 20th century.
Mayor Curley made things worse and worse (quite deliberately – he drove out various business enterprises and so on) to make people more dependent on him – for food and so on, and he became very popular.
It works at national political level as well – look concerned, and make a great show of handing out help to the needy (the people you have made needy).
