Game developers jailed

ARMA III is a realistic first person military simulation game set on an accurate, high-definition rendering of the Greek Island of Lemnos which is close to Turkey. Last year the mayor of Lemnos expressed his displeasure at this, citing the Island’s peaceful reputation, while the head of the town council worried about national security.

This year, two of the game’s developers visited the island and ended up in prison for allegedly taking photographs of military installations there. Perhaps they had not heard of what happens to plane spotters in Greece. They are having to wait in jail for their trial for a long time because Greek judges have gone on strike in protest against austerity measures.

I am not sure what all this means but I will be considering other holiday destinations. Hat tip to Reddit.

“I am not sure what all this means…”

Yes, it looks all Greek to me too.

They should have taken Wogan’s advice about avoiding Greek islands that end in “-os”.

It means that the Greek authorities are demented, although not yet as demented as the Argentinian.

An Argentinian naval training ship (with 300 crew aboard) recently made a call at a port in Ghana – and was SEIZED.

By some enemy nation? By pirates?

No – by private creditors still looking for their money from the 2001 Argentine default.

Argentinia lives in a twilight world – where the government bankrupt (so bankrupt that its naval ships are grabbed by creditors) but insists it is not, where inflation is vast (but the government insistsit is not – and imprisons anyone who tries to tell the truth), and where there is a “boom”, yet the people can not feed themselves (in one of the greatest farming countries on Earth).

Turning Greece into Argentina is the policy of the international left.

    Oh by the way……

The Turkish military now has such an overwhelming military advantage that the defences on that Greek island are basically pointless.

Paul, I love that story about the Argentinian ship being seized by creditors. Can you provide more specifics? I hadn’t heard about it before this.
