We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.

Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

One of the more unusual museums

For some light relief amid the gloom:

Fresh from his decidedly mixed record as the governor of California (which he pronounces “Calliwornia”), Arnold Schwarzenegger has an Austrian museum in his honour. This must make him feel every one of his 60-something years.

Odd bunch, the Austrians.

  • My favourite German-speaking niche museum is the Deutsches Strumpf Museum, or Museum of German Hosiery. At this stage the museum is only virtual, but a bricks and mortar one is envisaged.

By clicking on the individual “rooms” you can read in German or English about such topics as “Men’s Tights in the Former German Democratic Republic”.

  • Natalie: oy – and that’s before even clicking…

  • Midwesterner

I looked at that link Natalie and thought, “not just silk, cotton and nylon, the Germans are now getting hosed with a coarse weave of Mediterranean Euros.

If I ever went to Austria (not likely) I think I would stick to the arms and armour museum.
