We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.

Pink pistols…

I am sure most of our readers will get a kick out of this assuming they have not already heard about it.

A former beauty queen blew away a thief who broke into her home in Florida. Think of it as evolution in action…

Why didn’t the dog attack the intruder? Or the iguana lizard? And why didn’t they offer the alleged intruder councelling, or apologize for their conspicuous consumption, which must have goaded him into his actions! He’s the victim here! Disarm all women now!!! I’ll bet this one was going through PMS!!

This is further proof that there is no need for the police and the army. People can and should protect themselves.
Let’s face it, police and soldiers are parasites sponging off the taxpayer. The police are mostly corrupt anyhow and get obscene pensions at the taxpayers expense. And as for soldiers, what sort of idiot signs his life away to go and kill people without question on the orders of fat, greedy, ego maniacal politicians.
Let’s be brutally honest here, soldiers are cannon fodder who are too dim to question the politicians. You have to be an utter cretin to give your life to the likes of Tony Blair, Cameron, Brown, Dubya, Obama, Reagan, Thatcher, and any of the other numerous incompetent, corrupt cretins who rise to the top of the mediocrity chain.
Most people are too chicken to face up to this truth; a free-thinking and intelligent individual would never give his/her life for a slimey politicians (they are all crooked) or a fat lazy monarch who sits in a palace wasting taxpayers money.

Give everyone a gun and abolish the wretched police and army and you save alot of money, and you strip the stinking politicians of their venal power.

Did you notice that Miss Florida’s fiance is really old and ugly?

Whoa, Gary, reign it in. Most of the soldiers I know do it for family and honest idealism. Most of them also hate the current state of government, and would be very happy to see a somewhat more Samizdatic change happen.

@Mose, I am sure Gary intentionally satirising the libertarian point of view.

The post is good Dale – many thanks.

“A girly gun fitted with a pink grip.”

Only in America. And I say that proudly.

I always love how they manage to get their dig in about ‘never take the law into your own hands’ – in this case it was ‘you took a chance, you could have hit Gary’ ( or whatever his name is )

As opposed to what stupid reporterette ??

Stand there, let my fiancée get the hell beat our of him and waiting for my turn at this thugs hands. ?

These stories ( where the ‘good guy’ wins ) RARELY make the news ( it goes against the ‘guns bad’ agenda) and EVERY time they do, the reporter/reporterette comes across as a hand wringing coward who would NEVER even THINK of protecting him/her self. The ONLY reasons this story made it was the ‘celebrity’ at the center.

And some should take note – did you catch how extensive video surveillance did NOTHING to stop this crime ??
    Hello London ??
    Anything ??

Satirizing, yes, to some extent, but also making a serious point. Also, I think you’ll find a number soldiers do it for the money (certainly in the US, where its purely to get in to college), as evidenced by the number who go on to become Mercenaries.

The army, much like our wretched, despicable education system (which should be taken apart completely and rebooted), brutally crushes individuality (lockstep, don’t think for yourself, do as you’re told), destroys creative thought. The army is a politicians wet dream, its Communism writ large, it stinks of Statist control. Its all part of the same disease of brainless conformity and servitude.
Its high time everything was dismantled. The solution is to devolve power to the point where the likes of Mr. Cameron have no power to do anything, and are subordinated to the will of local democracy.

I’m sorry, but the cold harsh truth is that if you serve in the army you are nothing but a slave of the political elite. No amount of mumbling how you disapprove of your Masters can change your slavery. You are an expendable tool (in both senses).

  • Stay on-topic or get deleted. This article is about self defence, gun ownership, hell… even beauty queens if you like, but it is not about David Cameron or how much you hate him or hate the military.

A pink pistol- is that the ultimate phallic symbol, or what? Anybody else think this marriage is in trouble?

  • Loved that link, James.

All this crap about “taking the law into your own hands” is just that: crap.

The plain fact of the matter is that in the U.S., the law has never left our hands. We deputize its regular enforcement to an outside agency, but only with the implicit understanding that if the agency is occasionally unable to perform its task — and of course, that happens — then we citizens reserve the right to enforce the law for ourselves, especially (as in the above case) on our own property.

‘Twas ever thus, and no amount of liberal handwringing will alter that fact.

As citizens, the law (and its enforcement) is ultimately our responsibility, and as citizens we cannot “leave it to the police” because in that direction lies nothing less than oppression.

    Kim du Toit.

I agree with you – but the people who contol the schools, and the university law departments, tend not to.
