Key Republicans come out for the new NASA budget

I am very happy to see key Republicans Newt Gingrich and Robert Walker have publicly backed the new NASA budget.

I am not. It is run by the government and funded by taxpayers.

  • Sadly political reality Tim means that NASA isn’t going to go away overnight, and if is a choice between business as usual (NASA spending billions on one launch architecture tailored to their needs only, that launches a few dozen government paid professionals each year) and the government buying flights from commercial providers I know what I’d prefer.

With the new policy you and I might see the day where anyone can go to space (if you have the cash of cousre!) rather than just NASA astronauts

The evil that is the International Space Station has had a baleful effect on NASA and the space industry for decades. What is the purpose of the ISS? It was just something that sounded cool 30 years ago, after the Moon landings had been completed.

It would be more impressive if Mr. Gingrich were calling for US withdrawal from the ISS, and for refocusing that now-wasted money on more useful objectives in space. But Mr. Gingrich passed his sell-by date some time ago.

I am afraid that Mr. Davies had it right on an earlier thread (channeling Charles Krauthammer) — this is bait & pull. Take away what NASA has today in exchange for the promise of something better in the future, which will never be delivered.

    “Sic transit gloria!”
