News from gun free Britain

A detective working for the Metropolitan Police specialist crime branch fell victim to crime four times in an hour-and-a-half. His car was broken into and his bicycle stolen before being beaten up and having his moped vandalised.

The crime spree started outside his home in Fulham (which is a nice area!) in London. First, his CD player had been taken from his VW Golf. Then his bike was stolen as he went to report the car break-in and to call his insurance company. He took his moped to look for the thief but, after trying to detain a youth he saw riding his bike, he was attacked from behind by two others and violently kicked in the face and body.

John Cullen, the hapless policeman in question, said it was “frightening” that his attackers had little respect for people, including the police. He added:

“I don’t have any answers to all this but a multi-agency approach is surely urgently needed to tackle this sort of youth offending to protect the public – including me.

But there is an answer!

With the British government’s approach and policy towards crime, gun control and self-defence, how not very odd that even the police are now victims!

Unless, Mr Cullen considers a 9mm Uzi SMG a suitable ‘agency’ to tackle crime…

Update: Just saw Alice Bacchini’s post about the story from yesterday. How very fast – I only read about it this morning!

  • The problem with arming the UK police force is, they don’t *want* guns. They want people to do as they are told out of some moral respect for authority (pah!), especially if the person telling them is wearing a strange round hat. As this doesn’t work in practice, the police mostly spend their time hiding from criminals and complaining about how rude and impolite criminals are when you try to arrest them.

“Dixon of Dock Green” has a lot to answer for.

The thing is Alice, the police in the UK are already well down the road to being armed as a matter of course under ever increasing curcumstances. btw I love your blog!

Not that it will help the real victims of violence if the cops are armed to the teeth mind you. We are the ones who need the guns. Self defence is everyones issues but even more a women’s issue. Even if every policeman was armed how does that really help us? How does a cop having a gun stop me from getting raped again unless he or she is standing next to me when I get attacked? Message to the female hating statist feminists: How many men do you know who have been raped? Now how many women do you know who have been? Now tell me who needs a gun. Yeah.

  • Quite right, Molly, and I did mean the gun to be for us, not just the police…

  • Of course, it’s poverty that drives young people to crime. The answer is to increase their benefit cheque by, say, 4000%, which will naturally entail increasing the basic rate of income tax to 85%. In fact, why not give ALL our earnings to the Exchequer, and let that nice Mr Blair decide who should have what and what they should spend it on – for our own good of course.

(Whoa! This acid is fuckin’ hardcore, dude!)

  • I’m seven months late, but wanted to assure Adriana that the Libertarian Party of Illinois is not randomly spamming people and we are pretty good folks actually.
Not sure how Peter Judge’s mother ended up on our email list, but I just emailed him to offer a search to find out. The Yahoo Group keeps track of when someone is added, who added them, and how they were added. We only add email addresses we get from outreach events, referrals, and the like. It’s very possible we were given a fake email or worng email or our fingers slipped.

  • Jeff, thank you for your reply, better late than never!

It’s good to see that the Libertarian Party of Illinois is taking spamming seriously, especially given Perry’s post above. And you must be pretty good folks, if you found your way here!
