Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

Samizdata quote of the day

Anyway, no drug, not even alcohol, causes the fundamental ills of society. If we’re looking for the source of our troubles, we shouldn’t test people for drugs, we should test them for stupidity, ignorance, greed and love of power.”

P J O’Rourke.

Even stupidity, ignorance, and greed are minor flaws compared to love of power. The great disasters of our time have been produced by people who are smart, well-educated, generous – and power-hungry.

‘stupidity, ignorance, greed and love of power’ are the hallmark of the recently sacked Labor government.

That BrainyQuote site provides an excellent example of why I like Wikipedia so much. Just from my own memory I found several incorrect quotes on O’Rourke’s page alone. But there’s little I can do about it.

It would be like testing for hemoglobin, 100% positives.

    Deep Lurker – quite so.
