Who Are We?The Samizdata people are a bunch of sinister and heavily armed globalist illuminati who seek to infect the entire world with the values of personal liberty and several property. Amongst our many crimes is a sense of humour and the intermittent use of British spelling. We are also a varied group made up of social individualists, classical liberals, whigs, libertarians, extropians, futurists, ‘Porcupines’, Karl Popper fetishists, recovering neo-conservatives, crazed Ayn Rand worshipers, over-caffeinated Virginia Postrel devotees, witty Frédéric Bastiat wannabes, cypherpunks, minarchists, kritarchists and wild-eyed anarcho-capitalists from Britain, North America, Australia and Europe. Live from the Labour leadership debates
Perhaps Mr McDonnell opposes the INCREASE in NHS spending under Mrs Thatcher. Or the vast increases in government sector pay in 1979 (inherited from the Labour government it is true – but there was no effort in 1979 to stop the increase in government sector pay).
However, I doubt it.
More likely Mr McDonnell hates Mrs Thatcher for things he thinks the lady did – rather than for what Mrs Thatcher actually did.
However, men who allow themselves to get this detached from reality (mistaking the world of dreams in their fantasy life – for the actual world) are the sort of people who commit the crimes that Anne Applebaum describes.
I liked the threat Stalin issued to Krupskaya: “We can always find another widow for Lenin.”
