We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.

Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

Samizdata quote of the day

“It is my settled opinion, after some years as a political correspondent, that no one is attracted to a political career in the first place unless he is socially or emotionally crippled.”

Auberon Waugh
, journalist, novelist and son of the writer Evelyn Waugh. I once had the pleasure of chatting to Auberon for a long time at a party and reflected on what a thoroughly nice man he was. He is much missed, although not by Polly Toynbee, I suspect.

Anybody who earns a nasty obituary from Polly Toynbee deserves my respect. I wonder what Waugh would have thought of Dave Webcameron’s recent praise of that second rate Brownite evangelist? Probably what the rest of us think, although he would have said it better.

A great man. Though unaccountably convinced that I worked for the Daily Express.

  • Never was there a truer quote of the day. That said I was never a fan of the man.
