We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.
Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

If you need censorship to get people to vote for the right causes and politicians, they are the wrong causes and politicians Today’s Guardian has up an article with the title “Climate misinformation turning crisis into catastrophe, report says” and the strapline “False claims obstructing climate action, say researchers, amid calls for climate lies to be criminalised”.
Quote:
Climate misinformation – the term used by the report for both deliberate and inadvertent falsehoods – is of increasing concern. Last Thursday, the UN special rapporteur on human rights and climate change, Elisa Morgera, called for misinformation and greenwashing by the fossil fuel industry to be criminalised. On Saturday, Brazil, host of the upcoming Cop30 climate summit, will rally nations behind a separate UN initiative to crack down on climate misinformation.
“It is a major problem,” said Dr Klaus Jensen, of the University of Copenhagen, who co-led the Ipie review. “If we don’t have the right information available, how are we going to vote for the right causes and politicians, and how are politicians going to translate the clear evidence into the necessary action?

Who Are We? The Samizdata people are a bunch of sinister and heavily armed globalist illuminati who seek to infect the entire world with the values of personal liberty and several property. Amongst our many crimes is a sense of humour and the intermittent use of British spelling.
We are also a varied group made up of social individualists, classical liberals, whigs, libertarians, extropians, futurists, ‘Porcupines’, Karl Popper fetishists, recovering neo-conservatives, crazed Ayn Rand worshipers, over-caffeinated Virginia Postrel devotees, witty Frédéric Bastiat wannabes, cypherpunks, minarchists, kritarchists and wild-eyed anarcho-capitalists from Britain, North America, Australia and Europe.

Notice that they say, without evidence or reasoned argument, that an opinion contrary to their own “misinformation” and “false”.
And if they are so upset by Carbon Dioxide (a colourless and odorless gas that is essential for plant growth – and may have been getting dangerously low) why are they not campaigning against the People’s Republic of China – which produces far more of it than anywhere else.
A very serious point – if someone really believed that Carbon Dioxide was a deadly threat they would demand that we stop all imports for China (and other lands) and make everything locally – which would mean less Carbon Dioxide produced (and no transport Carbon Dioxide) – yet the Guardian urges no-such-policy.
So what is all this really about as it is clearly NOT about global Carbon Dioxide emissions.
The real agenda was made clear at the Rio conference of 1992 (revealed by the Prime Minister of Norway – and others), the agenda is to weaken the “Capitalist” West in relation to what is now called the “Global South” (which, bizarrely, is held to include the People’s Republic of China) and to promote world “governance” – using the “Climate Crises” to scare people into it.
The international establishment has wanted world “governance” for a very long time and will use any excuse to promote this totalitarian agenda – censorship and all.
If the same policies are pushed everywhere there is no where to flee to – so nothing to stop government being fully totalitarian, which it would become.
There is also a deep irony in the Guardian complaining about “disinformation” and “false claims” – as, over the last century, there has been no more dishonest newspaper in the United Kingdom than the Manchester Guardian – Guardian. Even dismissing journalists for daring to expose the cover up of the deaths of millions of people in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics in the 1930s.
An American equivalent would be the New York Times – also an incredibly dishonest publication, which lied to defend Stalin in the 1930s, lied to pretend that Fidel Castro was not a Marxist, indeed lies about just about everything.
The definition of misinformation these days would seem to be: “any information someone doesn’t like and/or doesn’t agree with”.

Rather like “Hate Speech” “Hate Crime” or best/worst of all “Non-Crime Hate Incident”.
I read the article, and now I’m having my own non-crime hate incident.
I quite agree with the dangers of climate disinformation. I understand that a mysterious international cabal calling themselves “climate scientists” are spreading the disinformation that CO2, a harmless trace gas essential to plant life, is behind a non-existent threat of rising global temperatures. Clearly, only prison will do for the guilty men.
This is funny in a grim kind of way. Also it’s worth following the link in the first comment.

Stonyground – yes the high energy cost policy of the government is destroying even companies that the government says it loves, such as wind turbine manufacturers.
It is not an accident – the deliberate intent of the government (or key parts of it) is to undermine the United Kingdom. This used to be just the unelected government (the officials and “experts”), but now it is the elected government as well.
This is the worst Parliament in centuries – that is clear. The elected government is now on the same page as the unelected government – there is no conflict between them, they have the same objectives.
Carl Benjamin (“Sargon of Akkad”) has called them “Demons” (specifically for their recent decision to allow the killing of babies right up to birth) – but they are really quite human.
Human beings have a lot of evil in us (I certainly do – very much so) and we have to fight against this evil (this evil within ourselves) every day.
But what happens if we choose to NOT fight against our passions (against the evil within us) rejecting moral reason, and seeing reason only in instrumental terms – as “how can I get away with this”. Indulging our darkest desires.
Well observe (from a safe distance) the United Kingdom over the next few years.
It is going to get vastly worse – because they (“they” meaning those in power – unelected and elected) are starting to understand that they can do anything they like – that the people, unarmed and helpless, can do nothing to stop them.
Are they all actively evil? NO they are not – many, perhaps most, of them (of the officials and Members of Parliament) have not got a clue what is going on – they just go with the flow, not really thinking. But some of them know – they know very well.
This is why explaining the terrible consequences of “Policy” will not get them to change course – as they already-know-the-terrible-consequences, that is why they are doing these things.
They know what is going to happen – and they get a “kick” out of it.
Why single out the fossil fuel industry. If you’re going to criminalise actions, it must be actions by *ANY* people. Why do other industries, and in particular the media, get off?
I surprisingly agree with a lot of the quote:
Climate misinformation – the term used by the report for both deliberate and inadvertent falsehoods – is of increasing concern.
I could not agree with this more. I have been railing against the deliberate lies and misleading nonsense spouted by the Green industry for twenty years.
Last Thursday, the UN special rapporteur on human rights and climate change, Elisa Morgera, called for misinformation and greenwashing by the fossil fuel industry to be criminalised.
I don’t think any speech should be criminalized but the two organizations mentioned here — the UN and the fossil fuel industry are indeed two of the biggest sources of blatant lies about the climate change nonsense.
On Saturday, Brazil, host of the upcoming Cop30 climate summit, will rally nations behind a separate UN initiative to crack down on climate misinformation.
This is the COP30 conference where they cut down huge swaths of the Brazilian rain forest so that their private jets and gigantic limos could drive ten thousand self righteous fat cat hypocrites to a conference condemning poor people for building a fire or driving to work or allowing their cows to fart too much? But I sure would love it if these people would crack down on ACTUAL climate misinformation.
“It is a major problem,” said Dr Klaus Jensen, of the University of Copenhagen, who co-led the Ipie review. “If we don’t have the right information available, how are we going to vote for the right causes and politicians, and how are politicians going to translate the clear evidence into the necessary action?
Well yeah, they have been voting on the fraudulent misinformation for years so that politicians are doing unbelievably destructive things like Net Zero, destroying the lives of the poor to preen their egos. These people really are evil bastards.
This sort of thing tells you a lot. It is evident that the world has had enough of their bullshit, and so all the powerful people who make their living off this crap are becoming more and more hysterical. Which I suppose is a good thing really.
In the (UK’s) National Civil War Museum in Newark, Nottinghamshire, there is inscribed on a wall the following quote from Sir Marmaduke Langdale:
‘The Parliament is far too nimble for the King in printing, the common people believe the first story which takes impression in their minds and it cannot be beaten out.‘.
COP30 – so this has been going on for 30 years. What happened 30 years ago? Oh yeah, the Cold War collapsed and rulers needed another existential threat to terrify the people into line with.
Dissent to be “criminalized”.
Well at least the Guardian and the rest of the International Community no longer pretend to support liberty.
They have openly come out as what they are – totalitarians, who, like Mussolini (the first ruler to use the term) believe in a total state – to achieve Progressive aims.
A Russian spokesman on the BBC 10 o’clock news last night assured us that Russia does not bomb civilians in Ukraine. Good to have that cleared up.
decnine. Not so much for you – but for others who may not have the knowledge that you have.
The Russian government, in practice, does not take any special measures to avoid bombing civilians.
Very unlike the Israeli government – which issues evacuation warnings and so on.
Not that long ago this was a laughing matter.
Twenty years ago it was stated that large areas of the world would be uninhabitable by now and millions of climate refugees would be flooding the areas where life was still sustainable. The North Pole would be ice free. Rising sea levels were to have subsumed island attols and low lying areas of coastline. The litany of failed predictions is enormous and it pretty much defines climate disinformation. Endless doomsday prophecies that didn’t come true.
The only reason to be in favour of censorship is that you have opinions that you know that you cannot defend. Those who have the facts on their side welcome open debate.
Further evidence, if any was needed, that climate alarmism has more to do with religion than real science. These people want to make it blasphemous to question the precepts of their beliefs.
And their stupidity and hypocrisy are painful. It is people, including them, who use fossil fuels and their byproducts and people do so because it is necessary in order to live a reasonably comfortable life. Fossil fuel companies simply supply what people need and want.
@David Norman
Further evidence, if any was needed, that climate alarmism has more to do with religion than real science.
But here is the problem for the Religion of Catastrophe… it has all the normal features of religion: Gaia as god, the sin of CO2, the original sin of Adam that we cannot ourselves purge especially among the colonialists, the penance and flagellation for our sins, the righteous priesthood, the Inquisition, the church organized mostly as Presbyterian, they even have their Joan of Arc.
However, here is the problem. The usual punishment for blasphemy is burning at the stake, and they can’t very well do that now, can they?
Imagine a large magnifying glass, harnessing solar power and focused on the stake.
Net Zero executions!
I think that the correct term here is heresy rather that blasphemy. Disagreeing with the established dogma.
