We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.

Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

Yet another reminder: the state is not your friend

The US government, working tirelessly to bring new opportunities to criminals worldwide:

Microsoft released a security advisory on Thursday warning customers that their PCs were also vulnerable to the “Freak” vulnerability. The weakness could allow attacks on PCs that connect with Web servers configured to use encryption technology intentionally weakened to comply with U.S. government regulations banning exports of the strongest encryption.

Thanks Uncle Sam!

Yes – American companies are forced to produce crap soft wear because of the demands of the U.S. government.

The enemies of the United States gleefully publicise the fact that American produced soft wear is crap (that the government, and private criminals, can penetrate it with ease)and thus American companies are being undermined in an industry that they created.

Yes National Security matters – but, in this case, the threat to National Security is the American government itself.

Of course in a future dominated by Chinese (and other) soft wear there will still be “backdoors” for the security services (just not American ones), but these structural weaknesses will not be publicised.

Indeed anyone who mentions them will have a terminal accident.

So THAT’s why “Hill” had her own private servers…..!
It was to PROTECT the gub’mint servers from the malware often found on her foreign countries “donor” email list !
    WHAT a patriot!!!!

Excellent point, Capt. And so I think we should direct our Hillary FOIA requests to the only people who actually would know what’s on her e-mails – the NSA. 🙂

Makes me think of Sun Microsystems.

    They open sourced their OS.
    They open sourced their processors.
Then they were bought out and everything went private again.

Capitalists gain, but at the expense of liberty to others? Is that not contrary to Ayn Rand’s dream?
By closing and protecting your own property, are you then tarred as a government collaborator?
Sounds like a lose-lose situation to me.

Apparently the CIA has infiltrated Apple’s software, too.
