Freedom is all well and good until you start getting sand in your eyes. That said I'd love to see Chinooks fly low over my local beach, whether it be for freedom or enslavement, a Chinook is a Chinook.

How lucky those two are! I'm 'paying' taxes, and I see nary an f1-11, let alone a Chinook! Or have our armed forces learned tricks about Stealth technology that the 'taxpayers' haven't learned about? Camouflage suits that really work?

Watching an entire squadron of those lift off the runway at once and fly into the morning sun is one of the four strongest memories from my stay at New River.

Another one involved a small freighter, 200 gallons of AFFF, and an improperly closed backflow valve. Worlds largest ocean going bubble machine.

Depending on where this beach was it might not have been viewing the babes--after all it's not all that warm in NC this time of year--IIRC (it's been almost 15 years) that one of the flight patterns back into the airbase was up the sound.

Also they might have been doing amphibious work--the marines still train for beach landings.

You sure it was a US pilot and not a pissed up Prince William, a bit off course, trying to get the chopper back from the stag party before anyone noticed?

You could hold a stag party in the back of a chinook, I used to work in a prefab office at the end of the runway at RNAS Portland. Every so often a chinook would come in to land and make the walls shake.

As someone who grew up in Suffolk, England during the cold war, I say one thing to the crews of the F-111s, A-10s, RF-4s, SR-71s, U-2s and KC-135s who flew over us constantly and noisily - Thank you guys for keeping us safe! Obviously people are going to feel safer on the North American continent, but believe me, in 1970s - 1980s Europe that was not the case.
While I'm on the subject, I now live in Normandy, France. Please don't judge the French people by the anti-American rhetoric of their government. All I hear from my Norman friends is: Thank you America - we won't forget Omaha beach and everything you did for us.

Ooh, Topsail Island! I went there in 2000. The Outer Banks are lovely, I'll never forget taking the Cape Hatteras to Ocracoke ferry at sunset.
