It scared me. I am used to reading and speaking to rational people who don't believe that people/things should be highly taxed just because they aren't "the APPROPRIATE THING" (as decided by whoever is in charge of those things), even if the tax wasn't particularly helpful. I knew those people were out there, but I've apparently been too sheltered from real exposure to them.

Scary.

Fuck 'em.

Supposedly Samizdata is on the border of fringe and nutter opinion. Congratulations Perry et al - that's a heck of a compliment given the source.

I noticed a few commenters hoping that oil prices would make SUVs obsolete and unwanted ... I don't suppose they want to hear about my ideas concerning Nuclear-Powered SUVs....

I love the comment about "It was good enough for your grandparents wasn't it..." (refering to walking rather than riding a car).

A lot of things were "good enough" for the grandparents because they didn't have any choice in the matter - higher childhood mortality, lower life expectancy. It was "good enough" for people living in ancient times as well - who didn't usually get past 35 or so.

Whilst looking at the newspaper front pages late Wednesday night, a B.B.C. ("News 24") man seered at the Daily Telegraph for "looking out for its readers" by complaining about the increase in taxes on "big, luxury cars".

One of the four cars shown was Ford Mondeo - not previously known as a big luxury car.

The same B.B.C. man sneered at the front page of the Daily Express.

The newspaper attacked the Labour party politician Ed Balls for shouting "So What?" when David Cameron complained about the vast increase in taxation over the last few years.

The B.B.C. man pointed out that Hansard reported that Mr Balls had really said "So Weak".

If the B.B.C. man had bothered to read the front page of the newspaper he was sneering out he would have seen that they reported this is what Hansard said - and that evidence from people who heard Mr Balls showed that the report in Hansard was a lie.

Those Guardian readers are terrifying. Eco-puritans. I was going to file a comment myself saying that I love Thunderbirds, Caddies, DeSotos, Ford V-8s, mega-gass guzzlers. And that I love guns, big nasty ones, and knives. But I lost the will to live after reading the Greenie Guardianists moralising...

Even though I love all the above (except the Guardian, which I despise with a vengeance), I'm actually greener than most of the greens, the fascist Friends of the Earth, and so on.

But only because I've always liked to walk. When I used to play in bands, for example, I'd cart a heavy Gibson Les Paul to rehersals rooms miles away on foot. And I've never used supermarket carrier bags because I can never open them - trying just leads me into supermarket rage and I kick a shelf down (you can see why I don't read the Guardian). So I've always carried my own bag.

Most greenies I've ever met moralise and are rarely as green as me. Not that I try to be eco.

Okay, that's that. I've lost my sheer crazed rage at reading those Guardian comments...

Oh dear god...... The guardianistas should not be considered "middle class human beings" anymore than a cancerous tumor be considered "a bodily organ".

They are at best an embarrassment, and at worst they will bring the destruction of Britain (and anywhere else they infect)

Churchill summed it up best with the words, "They are the most disagreeable of people...Their insincerity? Can you not feel a sense of disgust at the arrogant presumption of superiority of these people? Superiority of intellect! Then, when it comes to practice, down they fall with a wallop not only to the level of ordinary human beings but to a level which is even far below the average."
