One of the finest singers of the opera world
Johnathan Pearce (London)  Arts & Entertainment

I keep telling my wife that she bears a certain physical resemblance to this eyeful. I am not sure if Mrs Pearce wants to spend her life as an opera singer, mind. (Latin dance is more her thing). Anyway, compared with most of the over-rated warblers of modern music, Cecilia Bartoli knocks the competition into the proverbial cocked hat. Her continued excellence helps assuage music-lovers' grief at losing Luciano Pavarotti earlier this year. It is one of my regrets I never saw him live.

Comments

I saw Cecilia Bartoli at Birmingham Symphony Hall 3 years ago - she was just amazing and I have been a devoted fan ever since. (Just about as close to my heart as ITFC=))

nostalgic, Ipswich are on fire at the moment; hopefully with fresh funds we can get back to the Premiership! Go you Blues!

Having seen, alas only on the TV, Anna Netrebko perform at this year's Last Night of the Proms, I am captivated for life.

It's no criticism of the great Cecilia (and Jonathan, you are indeed a lucky man if Mrs. Pearce bears even a vague resemblance), but I'm with Otto. Ms. Netrebko was absolutely mesmerizing at the Proms. I think she sang a bit, too.

All very nice, but would opera still exist if not for state support?
