David Attenborough is forever finding unusual creatures in the deepest parts of the ocean. He tells us how they can see down there in the murky depths and how they mate. He tells us where they live, how they raise their young and how they use their tentacles to find prey. But he never tells us the most important thing: what they taste like.
- Jeremy Clarkson, the newspaper columnist and lead presenter of Top Gear, the BBC motoring programme. For people who do not know who David Attenborough is, he is the famous maker of very serious but also wonderfully filmed television documentaries about nature.

I take it that Jeremy would never be invited to appear on Attenborough's programme because of Jeremy's insensitive remark.

Un PC remarks are waaay down the list of reason's why Jeremy won't be meeting Attenborough any time soon. Watch just one episode of Top Gear and it will be very clear -- Last week they set fire to a "Caravan". the week before it was 250 mph.. and alot faster the week before that ---- until the crash anyway.

If I want to find out what something taste likes from a TV presenter, I'd much prefer Nigella Lawson to some bloke in a check shirt, but that is just me...

Jeremy Clarkson is still one of the funniest guys on television. So he's a parody of laddishness but there are already far too many po faced drones on tele. We need more people who, like Clarkson, are real - even if they are occasionally rather irritating.

It is a real shame though that he is a taxeater, why such a popular show needs to be on the Beeb I have no idea. He is actually a good example to use when discussing privatisation of the BBC, he is a polarising character that many advocates for continued state ownership of the BBC abhor. Half the argument is trying to convince people that the state should not be picking what is available to watch on TV. It is a disgrace that license fee holders that dislike Top Gear are forced to subsidise its production costs.
