The jewel in the crown of Samizdata.net
A blog for people with a critically rational individualist perspective. We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.

Samizdata quote of the day
Johnathan Pearce (London)  Slogans/quotations

We should really ban oxygen as well: bullies use that also. That would take care of the problem, right and proper.

- Greg Lorriman, Leatherhead, UK, a commenter on a Times (of London) article about the supposed terrors of bullying via such sites as YouTube. Amazing what people find to get alarmed about, isn't it?

I can't see much difference between being told "Why don't you just kill yourself, nobody likes you" via text, email, you tube video or in person, except perhaps that electronic media give the victim more options for seeking non-violent redress.

I believe there is a difference Simon.

It is a matter of property.

If someone comes into my home as screams "you eat babies" that is a different matter from someone posting on a website that I eat babies.

Fewer and fewer people trust what they see on the screen (for example most people know that if they look up conservative minded politician or non politicians on "wikipedia" what they will read is a hatchet job by leftists - to which the best response is to not look it up in the first place).

The old days when the internet was an alternative to the leftist mainstream media are long gone. The internet is now mostly leftist itself - and I have no problem with that, they write more than we do so they are about more. If people do not want to read leftist stuff there are still a few places they can go (here for example).

If someone wants to abuse someone else (on You Tube or another site) they will - the point is not to look things up (if one has a thin skin), ones "personal space" has not been violated by all this crap on websites.

I remember the Cameron people saying the most dreadful things about me on "Conservative.home" (or whatever it is called) when I made what were (I thought) quite polite comments about policy.

However, there was no need to get upset - after all it was someone else's website, they could say what they liked.

I just made a mental note not to post there again.

One point should be remembered, the bogus distinction between "guests" and non guests is just that - bogus.

For example, if someone wrote here supporting child rape Perry could (and I suspect would) delete them rather fast.

So when the Daily Kos (or some other group of degenerates) have vile things on for month after month one can be sure that the controllers of the site approve. Indeed the founder of the site has himself wrote how the American contractors who were tortured to death in Iraq, mutilated and hung on a bridge, deserved their fate.

The thing to do (as I mention) is to avoid these websites and the people who operate them.

As I believe Senator Joseph Biden is doing.

The correct response is:
"No.I don't like you either.I'd rather kill you."
Watch the vermin drop shit bricks.
