Samizdata quote of the day
Johnathan Pearce (London)  Science fiction • Slogans/quotations

Don't worry, I'm not gonna start any sword fights. I'm over that phase.

- Captain Malcolm Reynolds, one of the many fine characters in the television series, Firefly.

I've seen every episode and the movie. It is a great show.

Hmmm, Serenity's on now on HBO.

I've also seen both the serie and the movie. Very watchable. Too bad they stopped with the serie when they did.

On an offtopic note, there is also a new trailer online for Frank Miller's '300'. It's even better than the first one - at least I think so. A link: http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/300/hd/

This is a fertile land, and we will thrive... We will call it.. 'this land'.

My favourite Malcolm Reynolds quote goes something like: "If anybody tries to kill you, try to kill them right back."

I have been told that Firefly was cancelled because of some sort of personal feud in the television station - rather than because of low ratings.

If true, this would indicate that the oft repeated demand for television executives to "stop being obsessed with ratings" can have a bad side. It is better to interested in ratings than it is to have one's judgements influenced by personal spite.

Captain Mal, from a deleted scene, "There's over 70 earths in this verse, and the meek have inherited not a one."
