Samizdata is the place they prove you can be liberty oriented and still be a functional human being who is fully socialised.

The rounds were on-target and when I finished, the weapon was locked open empty and therefore as safe as it gets. My muzzle control is just fine thanks :-P

'Twit" gray here! Whilst the photos are delightful, is this the proper place for them? That is all i was asking. But some comments made me think- how deep is our commitment? Lenin and Stalin were dedicated to their monsterous ideals, and their dedication created the USSR. Would it take such dedication, such single-mindedness, to overturn Leviathen? How many of us are prepared to put in the same amount of work, to struggle like they did, for our ideals/ Are we as commited? How much work will it take to turn any of our countries into a libertarian society? Are we ready to pay it?

Gray, if you give up every pleasure in life, especially the ones that the State hates: guns, booze, and meat, to defeat the All-Consuming State, then you have already lost. The State will have consumed your life, and the joy it could have held, just as if it had imprisoned you.

Besides, in a country like the US, those who have no hobbies, no passions beyond politics and philosophy are viewed with a degree of suspicion, and often ignored.

Lenin and Stalin had recreations too. Lenin read Dickens and Stalin watched cowboy movies, for example. That didn't stop them getting their jobs done. It probably refreshed them for all their hard work. What a shame they didn't have the twit to advise them. They might have been less effective.

The thing I hate about semi-autos in snow is finding all of my brass. If the snow is hard enough that it stays on top, that's good. But it seems like it always dissappears and only a few are to be found, blackened, next fall.

Sure, those are fun guns, but handguns are actually useful to civilians who might one day have to use them "away from the range". Rifles aren't really self-defence weapons in most contexts. See the guy doing the double tap in the video? That's fun too but it's also shooting for the real world.

Nick, if you think you've been harshly treated, that would be because you come across as a humourless puritan and we have to deal with enough of those on the other side not to want to have to deal with them on our side. You may be a great guy in person for all I know and I don't doubt you're on the side of the angels but you might want to have a tactical and presentational re-think before slaughtering any more defenceless pixels.

Also, you clearly don't "get it" that sometimes libertarian tracts are really not the way to make your world view attractive to others.

Showing you can be a shooter and also be a fun bunch of guys with a taste for the finer things in life rather than being the crazed hillbilly survivalists our enemies make us all out to be, well that is probably more useful to The Cause than just producing an endless stream of articles titled "Taxation is theft", no matter how well argued and earnest they are.

IpD: I was kidding about the small guns...I meant in relation to the Ar-15 pic I put up. I know there are quite a few small (in size) handguns that pack an impressive punch. Of course, I have to say I enjoy shooting a 44 Magnum as well that a mate of mine has...not subtle but amusing none the less.

Al (because Mr. Bion sounds too formal) when I reread the comments, you come across as a dour, humourless person. I think that a lot of other people, when they hear me designating my audience as 'non-comrad', will realise that I must have some sense of humour, but I've never seen you make a humourous comment. In relation to guns, could you have carried those beauties onto the streets of the nearest town? Is america, on the whole, a gun-owners paradise, or does it all depend on which State you're in?
And has any Liberty-lover realised that if all you need is protection, then guns don't need to look like guns, but they could be just as effective- all you need is one tube and a firing mechanism. If the Arms of the Law get too powerful, maybe a Libertarian gunsmith could churn out guns disguised as a fiddle, or some such thing. Lousy aim, but good for close-up work...
