Labour is planning to attack David Cameron next week, accusing him of helping paedophiles escape British justice.

In what is billed as a campaign to portray the Tories as soft on crime, the home secretary, John Reid, is intending to hound the Tories over their refusal to vote for extradition laws that would allow fugitives to be forced to return to the UK. [...]

Labour believes the Tories are wrong on potential crimes of the future, symbolised by the identity cards issue; wrong on terrorism by refusing to support 90-day detention and control orders; and wrong over the use of antisocial behaviour orders and extradition.

With this, from a review by Stephen Fidler in the FT Magazine of MIchael Burleigh's Sacred Causes:

Burleigh understands that totalitarian states are founded not only on the will for power of ambitious, amoral men, but also on a popular desire for security.

Yes. Quite. The Tories are clearly allowing paedophiles to escape British justice.

Does anyone remember when a certain Labour MP (Grenville Janner) was accused of sodomising little boys? Clearly the charge was too ridiculous for serious consideration (in spite of the fact that 'children should always be believed').

As it happens, my considered opinion is that the charge was too ridiculous for serious consideration. But that's neither here nor there. Had it been a Tory MP I very much doubt he would have got away so lightly.

In the pindown scandal? That was actually proven to be a deliberate slur against Janner by a National Front (forerunner of the BNP) member - Janner was president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews at around that time.

Labour is planning to attack David Cameron next week, accusing him of helping paedophiles escape British justice.

John Reid is understood to have just personally ordered the shutdown of the Home Office department responsible for tracking the 43 serious offences prisoners who are missing - something that caused the resignation of his predecessor! Thus given Labour's track record of actively assisting criminals and perverts to escape justice one can only presume that Labour accusing Cameron of this means that a scandal could be about to break which implicates the government yet again in another paedophile abuse affair. Given the disgusting Maragaret Hodge's previous role in these sort of scandals ("some children need to be abused") nothing from this lot surprises me.
