This just in from the US Defense Department:

WASHINGTON, August 2, 2006 – The National Guard has exceeded its troop requirement along the southwestern U.S. border by almost 200 servicemembers and is assisting U.S. Border Patrol activities there, a senior Defense Department official said here today.

We were obligated, by Aug. 1, to have 6,000 National Guardsmen deployed to the four-state southwest border region. And, in fact, as of close of business yesterday, we had 6,199 soldiers, Paul McHale, assistant secretary of defense for homeland defense, said in an interview.

Now if they had not met the stated goal, that would naturally have been newsworthy...

Old news. The NG is deploying to build The Fence. I know an NGman who left for AZ on July 7.

Three cheers for selective immigration! Let's keep the riffraff out.

A couple of weeks ago the "Sunday Telegraph" had a supplement made up of "New York Times" articles (why they did this I do not know).

One of the articles admitted that quite a lot of people were joining the United States military (contrary to earlier media reports - not that the N.Y.T. admitted being wrong) - however these recruits were "trash", "bigots" and so on.

Of course we all know what this means - the people joining up are white southerners.

It has always been acceptable to insult "Rednecks" - after all the very word is an ethnic slur (it means Scots-Irish who, because of their very pale skin, tend to burn if they stay out in the sun).

Actually no. There were a couple other DOD press releases yesterday on the massive recruitment success they are having. The people signing up are from all across the boards, race, gender, religion, you name it.

That is what *really* gets up their noses.

I didn't cover the stuff on recruitment success as I felt it had been well covered elsewhere. They have been over targets for 18 straight months apparently.

I am sorry I was stupid enough to get conned by the New York Times story.
