Peter Mandelson has been an unmitigated disaster. Sign the petition to get him recalled.

I'm no supporter of Mandy, but isn't there a risk that he would only be replaced by yet another failed minister - a few current names in the news come to mind.
Out with the lot of them!

Why give them encouragement by acting and speaking as though the EU was a legitimate government from which people could be "recalled"?
I for one don't give a stuff who's in Mandelson's position, whatever it is, because it's not real anyway.

Verity's right. This would be implicitly to endorse the 'legitimacy' of the Commission.
Let them instead conclude, as they always do when voter turnout is low, that not signing the petition is because we are all so satisfied with everything: I want to see the looks on their faces when the mob finally turns its attention to their failure rate (and its close correlation to the rate at which promises are made).

We are better off with him in Brussels,BTW what is the Mandelson position? Anything like the Presco knee trembler?

I think that his position is an incredibly important one. He's the one of the biggest figures in the struggle over whether Doha will succeed. I'm not sure that he'd be replaced by anyone better, though.
I'll sign, because I trust that the Globalisation institute is better informed on EU politics than I am, and I'm certainly not a fan of his performance. I'll not be surprised if any replacement for Mandleson was even worse, though. My suspicion is that this has the most hope of being effective as a stick to beat him with, without going so far as causing him to lose his job. I can see that being a good thing.

As if it'll make any difference... I thought the whole point of Mandy being a commissioner was so he wouldn't have to face the people as it were?
Its not like he'd ever survive as a minister here is it.

You don't want Mandelson to lose his "job"? Wha'?

Who knows he could be replaced by Prescott? Wait a second that might be a good idea...
