UN to make the world a wonderful place... with your money
Perry de Havilland (London)  Globalization/economics

So Kofi 'Food-for-Oil Scandal' Annan has met with Tony Blair to discuss an eight point programme for setting the world to rights.

I am appealing to the Chancellor and the UK government to use the upcoming UK presidencies of the G8 and the EU to work for the necessary political breakthrough and the additional resources needed to achieve those goals.

The only way political breakthroughs are going to lead to an end to poverty is when political leaders do a great deal... less.

He wants $100 billion per year to be administered by the UN? Man, the graft potential there would make the "Oil for Food" program look small.

Thanks awfully for posting the UNisevil address.Yet another reminder of the vital role of the net as antidote (to the nauseating po-faced pieties of the elitist, morally bankrupt and intelectually dishonest mainstream media).
That said; if there was any doubt in the laity's imagination about the UN's credibility, Kofi's Banana Republic chief martial law administrator's stance ought to dispel it. The guy is every corrupt EU Wallah's fantasy; I mean it's one thing for the Chiracs and the Santers and the Cressons to fiddle what is in comparison petty cash and walk around with the l'etat c'est moi smirks; but cher Kofi walks the walk. Imagine a scam this big in any private organisation and the subsequent fallout. Most of all the BBC hectoring about it being the natural consequence of Capitalism...all the usual ¬balanced panels, chiefly comprising Monbiot, Benn,Marxist profs, Leftist think-tanks and any available Lib-Demmer expressing outrage, piling calumnies, suggesting more effective quangos to supplement the existing ones...I think we are all too familiar with the routine. However UN crimes and misdemeanors get next to no mention in the media's polite society...minor indiscretion my dears; she's a good-eggish old thing, une bonne fille qui a mal tournee etc.Which reminds me of our very own affaire concerning one Kirsty Wark, Scots politicians and tens of millions of tax payers money. Any clue as to what's goin' on? Pray tell because the Beeb and the dowdy papers wont say. Keep up the (quite often) good work.Shalom, Rasha.

"The UN chief, who has branded the war on Iraq illegal..."

For a negligible sum of $100bn, to be spent exclusevely and entirely to "compat poverty" (i.e. fatten the Swiss bank acounts of 3rd world thugs and UN under secretaries), Kofi is willing to absolve you from your sins (those illegal wars).

Scrap the CAP, give them free trade, give them property rights ( H. Desoto), don't give them money, mine or anyone elses and certainly don't give it to the UN.
