There are plenty worse [than Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan] in the nation's upper house - John Kerry, Edward Kennedy, Christopher Dodd, Claiborne Pell, Alan Cranston and the appalling Howard Metzenbaum, to name just six.
- P.J. O'Rourke, Parliament of Whores (1991)

N.B. Top of the list of shame!

Ah, Metzenbaum - a blast from the past for me. My home state of Ohio has a lot to answer for...

Barbara Mikulski, Pat Leahy, Jim Jeffords, (Oh, dang -- he got Dodd), Debbie Stabenow, Carl Levin and Chuck Schumer (honorable mention for Hillary Rodham Clinton).

I love O'Rourke but the book is old and he did not have the firepower I enjoy today

I gave a copy of Parliment of Whores to my brother the same week he had surgery for a naval hernia. I had to take the book away before he blew a gasket. I have to wonder founders like Franklin, Jefferson, Washington, or Adams would say about career politicians such as Kennedy who have never held a real job.

Being from California I have to admit that we've got a lot to answer for as well. We sent Cranston to Washington when I was in junior high school and now we have those two yenta's Boxer and Feinstein in the senate.

Kerry is the most rabid leftwing statist ever to run for US President.

Which is why more Libertarians than usual will vote Republican this November.

A Kerry presidency is simply not an option for us. His extreme statist voting records tells us all we need to know.

The late Senator Moynihan actually did some good for society.

He decried the tendency for society to say that some behavior once considered wrong was now officially OK. He called the tendency "defining deviancy down" or DDD, which was kind of catchy.
