That quote is sort of right. It should read:
"Blogs cannot change the way newspapers are written, but they can help people ignore them."

With the blogs I read (does fark.com/totalfark.com count, too?), I don't even sully my fingers with a newspaper. They help me collect and distill the news I want/need. Mind you, I still read cnn.com, foxnews.com and so on, but I haven't picked up a newspaper in months.
