Samizdata quote of the day
Gabriel Syme (London)  Slogans/quotations

The Americans will always do the right thing...after they've exhausted all the alternatives.
-Winston Churchill

Comments

I have seen this quote before by Churchill but have had trouble finding its date or context.

I have also seen this used with other nationalities and groups as well, yet still attributed to Churchill.

Does anyone have any additional information on this quote's provenience?

Probably in a speech contrasting Americans with Continentals...

Sorry to be so crass, but just put your original quotation into Google and:

And that's it!
