Adam Smith Institute Christmas Party
Perry de Havilland (London)  Antics & parties

Tonight the intrepid Samizdatistas ventured into the heart of darkness (Westminster) to attend the Adam Smith Institute Christmas party at their rather splendid offices overlooking the Houses of Parliament. Vast quantities of champagne were consumed (well I certainly did).

The party was absolutely jam packed with free marketeers of all shapes and sizes.

The crowd was lively and, compared to pretty much any other UK think-tank, of a remarkably young average age.

Champaign ? I thought you were beer and ale guys. Chapaign is a French thing. Have you changed your mind about France ?

Is Champain a non-French alternative to champagne? Only, presumably, giving worse morning after-effects? ;)

Is that Neil Hamilton in the bow tie? Would Adam Smith have approved?

Any more pictures of Adriana?

(now you know why I keep coming to Samizdata ... :)

I am sure you all had a great time but stop it please!

Those of us stuck in the provinces (with cheap housing, no traffic jams, etc etc) who have to make our own entertainment, are in danger of getting a bit jealous of your endless partying. Back to work!

Bah Humbug.

btw is it Neil Hamilton? I thought it was Lord Carrington...

I can confirm it is Neil Hamilton in the photo. Well, spotted. Alas, I cannot confirm whether Adam Smith would approve or not... :-)

Oh da hottie is Eamonn Bulter of course!

Posted by snide at December 3, 2003 01:32 PM

What Perry didn't say was that most of the girls there (baring Adriana and a few others) were jail-bait or near enough. Someone invited a whole bunch 6th formers along for good measure. It was a good night, however. It was most amusing to see how many young Tory fogeys, who normally are bilous about libertarians, were there for the free champers. (...Henry Hendron...David Loder...to name a few)

So, with Neil Hamilton in attendance, was it The Ultimate Cheese Party?

Posted by Steven Chapman at December 3, 2003 09:22 PM

Andrew Ian Dodge,

"(baring Adriana and a few others)"

You meant "(barring Adriana and a few others)" I hope...?

Posted by Ron at December 3, 2003 10:10 PM

Ron, well spotted! I can assure you that your interpretation is correct.

Posted by Adriana Cronin at December 4, 2003 01:01 AM

Eek, oh well...at least you got the gist of what I was saying.
